What contraception do you use?

Well, looks like its time to think about contraception again!

I was on the pill prior to TTC and it was fine, but I am interested in the coil...does anyone have one fitted at what are the pros and cons?

What methods do you ladies use?

Cant help with the coil... I just use the mini pill. I've tried the pill and the injections but both gave me awful migraines.

i have the mirena coil now. and touch wood iv had it fitted 10wks and only had 1 period . i love it no more heavy periods and no more cramps. i did have the normal coil before this 1 and it was awfull, really painfull heavy periods which lasted 10-12 days but that fell out after 3mths of having it in . but like i said touch wood this 1 is ok

Hi

I had the mirena coil as well last time and it was brilliant. No worrying about taking a tablet and my periods would only last about 2 days and were really light. Wasnt uncomfortable to have fitted, a bit like a smear. Having one fitted tomorrow as dont want to rely on condoms. I dont want anymore kids and my luck I will get pregnant by accident.

I would recommend it and you havent got the side effects you can get on the pill.

I was on the pill for 11yrs before i had Kaiden, think my system changed when i started it again 6 wks after having him it didnt agree with me at all, caused weight gain water retention and severe migrane, i was thinking of trying the coil, ive heard the implant and jag can make u gain weight. At the mo ive been using condoms, horrid things i have to use the non latex ones and they cost a fortune. Im gonna call the doctor today see about getting the coil fitted XkelX

i use the "i just dont have sex method" its working so far
iv heard they are reluctant to fit the coil if you still want children in years to come and are young because they can very rarely travel up into uterus and cause damage

Same here i wish i'd never taken any contraception pill as only 3 months after starting them i had horrendous migraines and have never managed to shift them, only now are they getting manageable (touches wood!!)

I might try the mirena coil, in the future, but i will never take any tablets again.
I was thinking about the injection, but they said i could end up with severe migraines untill the inkection wears off at about 12 weeks - and no way am i risking that... also i've heard of people not being able to have kids after taking the injection.

but we are ttc any way at the moment so we are carefree as such

I was thinking about going on the depo but have heard a few scare stories about it and don't know whether to now. As I am breastfeeding I would need that pill that I can take while breastfeeding. Has anyone had any experience with the injection??

condoms for us at the mo. My doc isn't confident putting me on the pil because of theproblems i had in pregnancy and it possibly being hormoned triggered (which he didn't know until i questioned him about it)

i've got to get tomy local FP clinic and get them to sort it out as i want to go on the pill.

i've got no experience of coils. sorry

I weas on depo provera for a couple of years and all I can say is I will never have it again.

I went from a size 10 to a 16 (and still struggling to get back to what I was even 4 years after stopping it), had the most excruciating mood swings, I became a paranoid, needy wreck.

Depo prevera has been trialed on sex offenders on death row in the usa as it is known to kill the sex drive completely. Thats scary!

I suppose everyone is different but you shouldnt be prescribed it if you have ANY history of depression.

I used persona for about 2 years before ttc and it was great basically you pee on a stick and get either red or green days the red days were around ovulation, so it does take will power you have to abstain or use condoms on the red days. It was invaluable when we were ttcing cos we knew exactly when to bd.

oh god thats y i am on the depo provera i was a size 8 and now pushing a 12 and still puttin on weight i eat healthy etc but just put weight on
also explain y even tho im not havin sex y im not even bothered by it lol
