Hi There :)

I am terribly impatient and seeing some posts on here (this is my third post of the day - sorry!) and I see people are mentioning private scans etc?

How do you go about getting these done?

I am only having a cycle every 4 months and Hospital scan says its not PCOS. So far best diagnosis is a slight indication of Under Active Thyroid. Surely that cant affect it that much? :eh:

Any advice of the tests I can get privately etc would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Sophie

I know what its like to have long cycles as I have pcos. Personally I found my local GP quite quick in terms of having tests done, I did email a private fertility clinic in my area to ask about costs but the prices were very expensive. I know some of the girls have had private hsg scans to check to see of their tubes are blocked, maybe ask your doctor to see if you could get this done. You could also try a natural herb called Agnus Castus you can get it in Holland and Barretts and it can help regulate your cycle. Keep on at your GP for more tests as they won't rush otherwise but it will save you loads of money xx

Should also mention that usually a GP won't refer you to a fertility specialist until you have been trying for a year or more sometimes even 2 , so maybe worth telling a little white lie in order to get things moving quicker xx

Hi Vicki,

Thanks for your reply. I will pop into the local H&B this weekend.

Doc is being good. He was quick to send me for scans and offered to do the 21 day bloods. Day 21 is just never coming!!! :-( He did all the other blood tests (hence finding under active thyroid) He is doing repeat bloods for thyroid in 6 weeks before he medicates. (A tablet for life but i hear it will help with weight gain so any pill that helps with that is good in my books! ) All these 6 weeks here and 6-8 weeks there are taking ages.

You know when you just 'know' the real cause hasnt been found?
Cheers

Ahh hun I know that feeling well, my doc wanted me to have 21 bloods done when I first went to see him it resulted in me going back 3 months later as I still hadn't had a period, that's when they arranged for me to have a scan instead.

Be very cautious about the thyroid drugs they tried telling me mine was under active and mentioned about the drugs for life, but it turned out my problem was due to the pcos. I read somewhere that once you start taking the thyroid drugs you can never stop as your body becomes dependant on them so just be careful there, maybe do some reading on the internet to see if your symptoms match up.

I understand the whole waiting period it definately sucks I agree but sadly we don't have many other choices. But we will get there eventually xxx

Hiya Sophie :)

I am terribly impatient too.

If you have the money, i'd definately spend it on private diagnostics.

The Nhs have a very inefficient method of diagnosis and i have undergone 7 months worth of diagnostics when they knew what was wrong right at the start.

You have to have ALL the diagnositcs before your treatment can start but they won't do them all at once.

I had a couple of them done and it saved me months and months of waiting and only wish i'd had them all done as the Nhs will stay pay for the actualy treatment which is the really expensive bit.

Just find yourself a local fertility clinic that deals with private patients and contact them :)
