Is there anything you do every year that's special to you?

No matter what, every year ill go to my mum and dads house for dinner! It just wouldn't be the same! Even OH doesn't mind going up there cos he knows its important to me!!
I major do the house out, it looks like a grotto during december, i so can't wait for little man to be part of it this year!
I've already started christmas shopping too!!! LOVE IT!!!!

We have Xmas with my parents who live in the farm house, so a proper huge massive open fire, with all the decs and sockings, i have to admit it is something magical. We just all have a super day, lots of fun, games, food, drink and what i class as a proper tradition type christmas. I love it.

I said to Mum and Dad that they would have to come to us this year as i will either have a little, little baby or be heavy pregnant, now writing this i am having second thoughts.

Mum and I always (excepted this year) go to Olympia horse show, which gets us right in the Christmas mood.

Then Boxing day, either on foot or horse back go to the boxing day meet to see the hounds off and then if on foot to see the bassett hounds off. Followed by a nice warm mulled wine in the pub. Followed by more food, and a boxing day party in the evening at Mum and Dad's.

Oh where do I start!! (sorry in advance your all getting the low down in full) lol xxx

Our christmas traditions start on the 1st Sunday in Dec.

I make a big pot of mulled wine and stick the mince pies in the oven then me David and Kate get our Santa hats on, the Christmas carols CDs get put on and all the house is decorated with lots of lights, hand painted ceramic christmas figures Ive made at craft club, lots of candles and 4 huge Xmas trees! Then thats the house looking fine for the man arriving himself lol!

Then on the last Sat before Christmas we always have a mulled wine and mince pies night and all our friends and family come over for a pre christmas get together! Its great and I love it!

Then Christmas Eve I always buy Kate new Pjs, slippers and dressing gown, colouring books and pens, I know even at aged 16 I get her them, but my parents always did it for us so its a tradition thats carried on!

Then we all sit and prepare the veg and whatever else needs to be done on Christmas Eve for christmas lunch, and I always set the table then with candles and all again something I absolutely love doing and we change the colour theme every year so the table is different each time! Love it!

Then we set the living room table up with the fruit and goodies in the afternoon, hang the stockings on the fireplace and then we are all ready to do whatever we decide to do on Christmas eve!

Bath time for everyone then its either out for a meal and midnight mass, or stay in and have a buffet then off to midnight mass!
Usually alternate what we do each year and as last year was a buffet on Christmas eve we might do a meal out this year then Mass although being 6 month pregnant this year I may just opt to stay in and do the buffet again lol!

Then kate is MADE to sprinkle her magic dust so Santa knows shes here and then its off to bed for Santa coming!!! OMG Im wetting myself just thinking about it all!! Ha!!

So Kate usually is still as excited as when she was really little and wakes us up about 7ish, presents opened with the carols on in the background, breakfast, glass of something naughty then chill out for a bit!

Then lunch is usually seeing to itself in the background and we just mull around too!

Then lunch is anywhere from 12 - 4......sometimes we have family over, sometimes have lunch just us so then we just go with the flow with a few naughties too lol!

Then we chill out again for a while until about 6pm when we head to the inlaws and do it all over again with the food, exchanging gifts and spend some quality time together or they come to us and do the same again depending on whos turn it is!

Ahhhhhh I just reallly am a big kid and I still feel that magical feeling on the run up to Christmas.

Christmas day is just the best day ever.

For us its not about present although obviously part of it, but its about bringing Christmas back to basics and celebrating it for what its really all about.

Spending time with those we love and not about how much money we can spend!

My freinds and family always get a home made calendar from me, some form of home made 'edible' and hand made cards!

I refuse to spend a fortune on presents as thats not what its all about to us........sorry just had to add that in as I think some folk just get far too carried away with spending and loose sight of a good old fashioned christmas lol!!

So thats basically a run down of Christmas in the lives of the Wilma, Fred and Pebbles over at Bedrock lol!!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I cant wait!!! xxxx

When I still lived at home we were always allowed to open one pressie that Santa (or parents when we were old enough to know) had left specially under the tree on Christmas eve-just the one! So we do that. The other one we do is putting a stocking at the end of DD's bed that always contains a clementine and a colouring book and pens (bribery really so that she'll stay in bed and colour until we get up) again it's one that my parents used to do that I've carried on. We always have sherry on Christmas eve whilst wrapping pressies. Last year we made loads of decorations and will be doing the same again this year so that'll probably be a long standing tradition. I'm a bit of a Scrooge with Christmas because it's so commercialised! It annoys me!

Sounds fab Helen and I couldnt agree more with the hand made things I love making them and its just adds that something special knowing the house is decorated by things us and our kids have made!

How exciting and you will have Seb this year too how lovely!! xxx

Countrybumpkin your christmas sounds fab too and soo traditional! Last year we spent christmas at my brother and sis in laws and they also live on a farm with an open fire, and it was covered in snow and oh sooo magical its got to be one of the best Christmasas Ive had since I was a child! Perfect!! xxx

we celebrate christmas on the 24th in sweden :D all morning we cook together a big lunch, we eat mostley pork (roast gammon, meatballs, ribs, sausages..) beetroot sallad, vegs and potatoes in diferent forms. We eat a sort of pickled fish and eggs as starter (sounds horrible but its nice)

then we open presents at 3ish
then we eat the puddings wich is saffroncake with cream or a sort of ricepudding with oranges (its better then ricepudding tho)
and at 5ish we play a pressie game where we all fight for the presents on the table by throwing dices (this is everyones favourite part of the day except the food)

then we take a walk in the snow or just sit infront of the fire chatting playing games before we tuck in on the leftovers :D
on 25th we go to my dads and eat cristmas dinner again and open presents and eat more pudds!

but 24/12 is our main day we celebrate

Omg wilma that's just lovely!!! U r even managing to make me feel christmassy!! Ours is always spent with family one way or the other but being split up all over the place now and with my dodgy shifts it's all sort of on hold! Always a box/tin of roses tho which can only be opened on Xmas eve. Can't wait til my first Xmas with a baby to start our own wee traditions

Wilmaflintstone your Christmas sounds perfect! Might have to steal sone ideas!!!!

Wilma

Have you a picky of the calendars you make would love to see :)

I feel really boring now lol

I make all the christmas card- hopefully more in advance this year as I don't feel that christmassy at the end of it all.

I start reading a christmas carol every year on 1st December - I just love the story so I do it every year :)

On Christmas Eve we always have a take away and I prepare the veg for the next day.

Christmas day its always just mum, hubby and me cause everyone else is too far away. I drink while cooking and when we've eaten about 1pm we sit down relax and open pressies and ring round the family.

It's going to be even quieter this year as my brother is off traveling round the world :( He doesn't celebrate christmas but he buys everyone pressies and his on his birthday in January instead.

Ah Isobel that sounds lovley I would love to experience Christmas in another coutries culture! My sis lives in Austria and she hates not having Christmas as in her community they also celebrate on 24th but do nothing on the 25th so she misses that lots! Sounds amazing!! xxx

Sol yeah I will post some pics of the calendars Ive made in the past no probs ..... xxx

Helen feel free to steal as many of our traditions as you like they have made me feel all special and magical for 38 years now so if they can go on for another 38 years in my or your family that would be amazing!! xxx

Ah thanks princess! Glad Ive got you in the mood too! And yes once you have a lo there you can def start with your own tradtions and make them so special! I must admit with KAte being 16 now I cant wait to start the whole 'T'was The Night Before Christmas' thing again with this LO when he or she is old enough to understand!
Ahhhh Im sooo excited!!! xxxx

This year is going to be the first one where OH and I will be alone (if baby stays put until Jan!) and I can't wait to start our own little traditions.

I usually have Christmas with my grandparents which is nice and relaxing. We go and visit some family in the morning to see what Santa has brought, then have lunch, pressies, and then have a nice walk on the beach. For the evening we have some family coming over for a buffet.

One year I went to my in laws for christmas and hated it, and have selfishly told OH that we'll never go there on christmas day again. It just wasn't the same, and was so stressfull!!!

I really really can't wait for Christmas 2011 though, little ones first christmas.

Ah Mstar I dont blame you sometimes christmas has to be the way we want it.....after all itsonly once a year isnt it......sadly! lol xxx

We always do something Christmas eve <3 last year it was a steam train ride with Santa and this year we are going to watch peter pan (Rhys and ffions fav) at the theatre. Usually they go to bed early then because thy are knackered!

Colin always puts the tree up with the kids, it's his thing and he loves it so I go out shopping and leave them to it!

Stocking presents are from Santa and are opened first, then boiled eggs for breakfast, then my mum comes over (it's the one time of year she comes over) then we go to have dinner at colins step nans and then round to the inlaws where we sit in front of the fire and open more presents. usually most of the presents are left until boxing day!

Other traditions include new pjs on Xmas eve and handin out the presents one at a time and taking time to open them.

All this is bringing tears to my eyes because I don't know if any of the above will happen this year because colins nan is eiher not going to be wih us or is goig to be too sick for us to do anything.

Ah terrie so sorry to hear about Colins Snan but hopefully you will have her here for Christmas!

Your traditions sound lovely! I love hearing what we all do with our families its such an amazing time and I cant wait from one year to the next!!!
