So I went shopping for baby things yesterday, wrote a long list etc and came home with nothing of any use

I seemed to be overwhelmed by the whole thing, wandered around stores in both Cardiff and Swansea but just couldn't seem to make a decision on anything!

OH tried cracking jokes about it on the drive home and it took all my concentration to not cry.

What's happening to me??? I used to be a very organised, controlled and headstrong woman and now I can't even decide what dummy to buy!

:looped:

lol I feel the same and often spend hours trying to buy something online, reading hundreds of reviews, then giving up and coming back to it a few days later. Its so hard to make these desicions as its not really for you but for the baby. so many questions like what if he doesn't like it, what if its not very good quality, what if theres a cheaper version thats just as good... its all very overwhelming!

Hemera I'm glad I'm not alone!

It's also the fact I've got too many people giving me well intentioned but contradictory advice.

Am wondering if internet shopping may not be the way forward for me.........

It is hard as there's so much out there, prob why I've still got lots to buy now! Best thing is to conerntrait on one thing at a time like your pram, so your not so overwhelmed, think about your lifestyle so you can narrow the search down, then your budget, then you will have far less to compare. That's what we did. Still not decided on nursery furniture but guess there's no rush for that as baby will be in with us for a while. Took me ages to decide what baby should sleep in when it's newborn, decided on a crib after months of changing my mind and looking at all the options!

It is so so stressful to shop for baby stuff, no wonder you were upset. There is so much choice for each tiny thing, for dummies you've got 101 diff brands & sizes & same for bibs, bottles ect ect. Its very confusing.

I look online first & get an idea of what I like, then either order it online or go into the shop with a firm idea of what i'm getting.

Remember alot of the shops are laid out in such a way that makes you think you need certain things when you really dont.

I think its a bit easier when its your 2nd/3rd coz you already know what stuff you use/dont use & know which brands are better than others.

Another idea is - go round the shops on your own, early in the morning when its not as busy, have a good look at everything w/out your OH trapsing behind you, then when you have a firm idea, get him involved (to help carry the stuff!) I can never concentrate when OH is with me coz I feel so bad dragging him around the shops.

:)

You're definitely not on your own. Someone posted a link on here for the mother care sale the other day - and I thought - oh thats great I'll go have a nosey. LAsted about 5minutes before I had a panic and closed the computer down.

I have Kezza's list saved on my computer and it scares the shit outta me. lol Im like are you SURE i need ALL of this!

xxx

I looked at Kezzas list too & i'd say theres ALOT of stuff on that that you'll never need/use.

I made my own list - going by experience on what I know i'll need.

Any chance of sharing your list too? I'm a complete novice and would love to see an experienced mums list.

im the same....my friend who has 4 kiddies is going to do me a list of what i actually will need...so i will share that once she has done it for me

Wow! Thx for the list :)

I'm gonna go all anal this week and make a spreadsheet of what I've got and what I think I need. I want to start getting stuff when I hit Tri3.

Yeah you have loads of time.

Once i'd bought the big/expensive items I found the rest alot easier by just buying one thing a week, spending about £10 at a time, for example, a 6 pack of sleepsuits (costing £10) one week & £10 worth of toiletries the next. And it felt great to mark off a bit each time.

In saying that, I have just over 3 weeks left & I still have quite alot to get, I need basically all my stuff for the hospital (which wasn't on the list above) & all the baby bath/mat type stuff.

:)

Thanks all!

Am going to go for the little and regularly purchasing system. My OH should get his first pay from his new job on Friday so god help his debit card then!
