i started weaning libbie about a month ago and have started introducing juice to her throu a beaker, she is 18 weeks - well 19 weeks tomorrow. she doesnt mind the beaker but tried to sukck on it. someone made a comment yesterday saying shes too young for a beaker!! well, i want to introduce juice to her but am adament im not doing it throu a bottle cos ur not supposed to. i just dont want to muck her teeth up!!!

any advice or tips??

i started giving ryan a training cup when he was about 4.5months. he can still suck it but only has it at meal times.other times he has a bottle.maybe try a different type that she can still suck? i have a tommee tippee one, when you tip it up it dribbles out quite slowly so its easy for them to get used to

I started at 7 months and were all fine with it here and shes taken to it well. We started off with a cup though that would not require any sucking though - but she can suck off the beaker now so its practise.

ooh i was goin ask this i have a tommee tippe one but she really doesnt like it has anyone got any recommendations.

xxx

well i have 2 types of beakers, one is tommee tippee and shes ok with it but the cap hits her on the nose so she gets annoyed with it. the other one is a normal free flow beaker from asda which she holds and put in her mouth which is easier. she just has a suprised look on her face wen theres juice in her mouth lol.

she wasnt interested in solids today or her juice so im hoping tomorrow will b better!!!

Getting amber to drink out of a beaker is non-existant...she just holds the handle and thinks its a toy and throws it around the place!!

I gave dsan Avent Magic Cup at about 18 weeks for his water - he never really had water from a bottle and doesn't have juice very often. I then started giving his daytime milk in a cow cup when he was about 7-8 months old.

today again, she hated solids and the beaker. think ive made a rod for my own bck thou - was starting her with fruitty stuff and now have been trying her with chicken etc etc and she hates it, she just screams!!! althou she doesnt like chocolate but neither do i very much lol.

has any1 else had this?

Isaac still doesn't use a beaker and he's not interested in using one so I'm not pushing it, he just has one with his food so he learns to associate it with eating. He never drank water, or juice, he was strictly a milk baby, only recently did he start drinking juice, which I'm not overly happy about as I'd prefer he just had water, he doesn't really need juice, especially with all the fruit he eats

I would say that she's only just starting out with all these new flavours and textures, so please don't feel you've made a rod for your back, she will go at her own pace and as long as you are having fun and relaxed too, she will enjoy trying new foods, but its all such a change, she may need time to adjust

Most parents will tell you fruit is favoured first and meat last, so she sounds perfectly normal :) If she screams, cries, closes her mouth up to something you offer I'd stop, because you'll both just get upset, try her again with something else when she's calm again  As for chocolate, Isaac never had any until he was about 7month, but he wasn't keen then, but there's very little in it for baby anyway, Isaac much prefers a piece of fruit to any sweet chocolate

I personally found weaning very stressful and didn't like it when Isaac got upset, which lead us quite dramatically to baby led weaning (BLW), might be worth a look. Just enjoy her experiencing solids, its all about texture and flavour intially, not how much or what she eats, don't be hard on yourself, enjoy it and very best wishes

Ryan holds the beaker and sucks on it but he hasn't learnt to tip his head back and tip the beaker up yet so he doesn't get anything out of it

We started giving Harrison a beaker around 4 months. Ignore what others say, My Mum used to tell me Harrison was too young for a beaker but I didn't listen to her cause I knew he wasn't :D

I started giving baby a beaker at around 5 months.... but he still hasnt learnt to drink from it! He just throws it around, turns it upside, chews on it.... and every now and then takes a little sip of water. I guess he will get the hang of it eventually!

ds only got the hang of holding and tipping the beaker at about 9/10 months. Until then we had to help him tip it. I'm glad it's been going well, hope it carries on!

ryan has had a beaker since i started him on baby rice, so just past 4 months. he just holds the handles and bangs it round, but when i hold it up to him, he knows that liquid comes out of it and where from, he just cant manage it himself.. :( beginning to feel like i should have persevered more with it with him and maybe hes a bit behind :(
