sorry to hear that hun. to clean the tank, use anti bacterial to kill any remnants of fin rot. as white spot is parasitic the boiling water will get rid of that. keeping fish aint easy unless u have plenty of time, patience and money on your hands, i dont have fish anymore because i dont have time for them.

for the record, lisaspoon was right really you should use aquarium salt...having said that i have once used table salt because im poor ( ) and the fishes were fine, i just made sure i didnt put too much in

When you say anti bacterial do you mean as in surfacem cleaner or is iot a thing especially designed for fish tanks? sorry if that sounds daft.
