What the feck am i doing wrong, it looks like one of the fish has tail rot and some white spots, we have only had them a sodding week and i have just noticed it. What have i done wronfg the tank was set up for ages before we got them, cleaned all of the gravel ornament ect wtf is happening im really pissed off now, any help would be great :wall:

UPDATE: Well Sid was gone this morning, he seemed to be picking up last night but i think it all got too much for him  Im absolutely devostated tbh, i am hoping that our other little guy makes it ok

all our fish from there died quick, theyre dodgy as fuck

was better off goin to a big garden centre, try that nx time if u wanna bother hun!!

Im not even gonna bother if these die now, im so sick and tired of it, they lookm like it has mould on it as well, so no doubt the other one is gonna get it, im gonna try and get some treatment for it tomorrow, i dont know why i care so much its a fish but its really upsetting me, i thought id done everything right

you would think them being such a big chain it wouldnt happen so much wouldnt you

Yeah, that was the reason I asked. They are notorious for not quarantining new stock which is exactly why this kind of thing happens - if they'd been kept in quarantine long enough this problem would have appeared in the shop and not in your house. There are forever dead fish in the tanks when I go in there - I'm only ever in to whinge about animal conditions and never buy anything from them.

See if you can find a professional aquarist nearby - ours is fantastic for advice and I only have 2 goldfish

fish get white spot from stress, how are you introducing them and is the tank being completely treated before you put them in?

Well i put the conditioner into the water and the filter was left running for over a week before we introduced them, we let the bag they were in float in the top of the taank before putting them in, only doing what i was told to

but did you treat the tank to get rid of the white spot first? it needs a treatment or it will stay in the filter and the tank.

no i was never told to do that :( oh bollocks what should i do

you need to get some white spot treatment and take the tank to about a third of water, i cant remember the exact process but i know we had to treat it a few times over a few days then re set up the tank and start over again, it was a pain in the arse as we have sa very large tank but worth it, also some fish are more prone to it than others, what fish did you get?

this is our tank but it has all been replanted now and has new fish etc.

we have got orandas i think, ones ok for the moment but ones really sick, oooo my god im so thick :(

unless you have been told you wont know and ita bit naughty that nobody at the shop has advised you, i have had fish from pets at home without any problem so doubt that is your problem.

It seems to have like whie tfluff on it too, my dad is bringing me some stuff for fin rot and im gonna get some fungal treatmeant for the other as thats what it says in my little leaflet. How should i do it, should i take them out and clean all the tank or just leave them in that water and just put the treatments in the tank while they are both in, will this get rid of it do you think, i think im gonna get a fish book today too

it will tell you on the box how to use the specific treatment you get so i would follow that, did the fish have it before you bought them, if not its unfair to blame the shop but definately tell them as most pets at home will replace them for you if you have a problem within a couple of days :D

They didnt look like they did tbh but the last fish i got from there did exactly the same thing as this one and ended up dying. Im gonna get some stuff today see if it helps at all and if not im not sure what i will do :(
