Hi everyone!

Thought it was about time to put in an appearance in this section. I've been ttc for 12 months now. Despite all of my symptom spotting and occasional excitement I haven't had anything remotely resembling a positive test! I didn't think it would be this tricky to have a baby, but am preparing myself for whatever may lay ahead...

I visited the doctor today and have my first blood tests in a few weeks. Apparently fertility clinics round here won't see you until at least 18 months which is frustrating (is it the same elsewhere?) so she's referred me for an ultrasound scan in the meantime which I was glad about, though I'm not entirely sure what it's for... I've been having lots one one-sided pain so I think they'll probably be looking for a cause of that?

I've decided not to plan my life around ttc - I booked a holiday for September which I'd have had to cancel if I got my January BFP so it wasn't all bad news when AF arrived last week!

Anyway, sorry for rambling on. Just thought I'd pop my head in and say hi. Here's to loads of 2014 BFPs :)

Beata xx

Welcome :)
I think most places will see you after 12 months if you are under 35, 6 months if over. I had to have a blood test and ultrasound before being referred to the fertility clinic. We are waiting for our date to arrive for our first app at the fertility clinic at the moment. I had my blood test back at the beginning of November and my ultrasound at the end of Jan. Lots of waiting about but at least we are doing something now so I guess it is a start. Have you got long to wait before your ultrasound?

My doctor told me they wouldn't treat me until I had been trying for 2 years so I told a little white lie to get yje ball rolling quicker.

The scan will be to check for cysts and other things. I'm guessing they are likely thinking you may have pcos as pain on one or both sides is an indicator of this. The scan will be able to check for that xx

Hi Snowbee and Vicky
Thank you for your replies. I think I would have told a little white lie too if I knew I had to wait 18 months - I just always thought it was a year! Yes it makes sense they're looking for cysts etc. I hope I don't have to wait too long for an ultrasound - she said I'd hear from the hospital within a couple of weeks and then it could be another couple of months. Was your ultrasound ok Snowbee? Did they find anything to give you a clue what's going on? I'm kind of hoping they find something so I can start getting things sorted out!
Thanks again for replying xx

I had to wait a couple of months for my ultrasound but they were closed over Christmas and then I was away visiting family so you could get your appointment faster.

Mine showed a few signs of cysts on my ovaries plus signs of a bicornuate uterus so not great, now being sent to the fertility clinic to investigate further. Still at least we are finding out and I guess that makes me feel a bit better rather than just not knowing why it isn't happening.

Hello :)

Most places are 18 months, as the average couple falls pregnant within 18 months as coming off the pill etc etc can take 6 months for things to kick back in then 12 months from there and bla bla bla lol.

Hope your pain on the side isn't too bad, I'd guess like a Vicky said they will be checking for cysts.

Do you mind me asking....how are your cycles? Are you regular? I'm just being nosey now, it's initiation into LTTTC ;) xxx

I hope you get some answers soon Snowbee. What's a bicornuate uterus if you don't mind me asking?

Haha Chazabell! Yeah very pretty regular - every 26-32 days. Not like clockwork but never really long or anything so I've never really thought about PCOS. I reckon I have endometriosis though as I've def had symptoms of that. Will wait and see I guess! Fun times ahead...

Oh and I was so sorry to hear about your bunny :( x

Hello ladies ive been ttc now for nearly 3 years so am planning to make my first appointment in the next couple of weeks (bit behind the times by the sound of it!) I was on the depo injection for around 18 months. My periods came bk after 3 months of coming off and ive been as regular as clockwork since so at a bit of a loss really x

Hello! :)

Wow - You are a lot more patient than I would have been. I hope things move a little faster for you as you've been trying for a while. I have heard things about depo taking ages to get out of your system so i bet that hasn't helped?

I hope your dr is helpful. Mine was a lot nicer than I expected, and I felt a lot better by the time I left. Let us know how you get on xx

Aww thank you, I miss her dearly :(

Regular is good :) im regular but my polycystic ovaries don't like to release eggs!! I also have endo and it goes unduagnozed so if you have good reason to believe you may have it push Drs. Because on,y surgery can diagnose they steer clear, I had war to get mine done.

Feel free to fire questions at us to prep yourself for next appointment :) xx

Would I know if I had pcos? Ive been using opks and not really getting on with them very well, havent had a positive yet. I think my mum had/has endo. Again would I know if I had it?! x

They say u should allow 18months for depo to get out of ur system so probably why I waited so long. You just assume it will happen naturally and u dont realise how time files. Defo time to get some answers now! Keep us posted on ur test results. Gd luck and baby dust!! x

I don't think you always know if you have pcos or endo. Some people have symptoms that may make them suspect but others no symptoms.

I used opks for a few months and never got a positive either, one of the things I mentioned to my gp on my first visit. Good luck at your first appointment :)

Hi everyone!

Poispinner, I know what you mean about time just slipping away without you realising it. In the time I've been trying two of my friends have got pregnant and had their babies and two more are on the way in the next few months. Fingers crossed that's us by the end of the year!

I've just got a letter through for my scan which is in 2 1/2 weeks! Scary. If they do find anything, what do they do about it? I want to ask my doctor for a laparoscopy for suspected endo too. Is that something she can refer me for or do I have to wait for the fertility clinic referral?

I hope you're all well anyway and having a nice weekend :) xxx

Tell me about it, nearly all of my friends seem to be pregnant. Like you say fx that 2014 is our year. I keep putting the docs off and saying to myself il give it another month then ill go, but i think id better start the ball rolling as im sure its not a quick process and im fast approaching 30 so time is of the essence! Lol. Keep me updated on what happens next at the docs. x

Hi again! :)
Well, say what you like about the NHS, but since going to my doctor 4 weeks ago I've had blood tests, internal and external ultrasound and pelvic exam! Can't believe how fast it's all gone. I've had all results except some swab ones, and everything came back clear which is good. Next up is OH's SA then we should get our referral to the fertility clinic. Exciting. Have you been to the doc yet Poispinner?
Xx

Thats great news! Yep I went last week and am having a blood test on thursday. Gotta book another appointment for an internal examination and also get OH to book for his SA. Hopefully we should get some answers soon x

Oh hello! Sorry, just seen this. No, he hasn't booked it yet. You've just reminded me to give him a kick ;)

How are you? Have you got your bloods back yet? Xx
