Wedding Dress - Designer or High Street

no one will see the label of the dress I would go for something cheaper, i paid £700 for mine it was Alfed Angelo.

Most brides loose weight preparign for the big day, usually without even trying so you can't predict at this stage what size you would be. I had a short engagement of only 3 months and was working for a food comapny eatimng all the time and still lost weight!

I ordered my dress last week, its designer but I fell in love with it and had to have it.

The owner of the bridal shop knows Im trying to lose my baby weight, and has ordered it in my current size, and will adjust as and when.
Like she said its easier to take a dress in then take it out.
I was gonna go with Monsoon, but then realised they are not corseted and I wanted to hold belly in/have a waist! And they showed all my lumps and bumps.

BHS have some great cheaper dresses with corsets etc, and you can easily get them taken in with corsets due to the panels etc.

I had a similar situation when i got married! I was about 16/18 and had to diet to fit in my dress. I bought a size 18 dress from a online bridal shop, i lost about a stone and then had industrial underwear on underneath when i got married.
It was really hard trying to lose weight and i was really stressed about it all.

You dont have to go designer to look nice. My outfit was as follows:

Dress: Debenhams £750 reduced with haggling to £52.50!!!!!!
Veil: £10 off ebay
Tiara: £1 in the sale in accessorise!
Shoes : Next for £10 in the sale.
Total cost= £73.50, bargain!

I think you have made the right choice Poppy.

I think you would feel a lot happier if you carry on dieting for your big day.

Why don't you pop into your local bridal shop and ask what they suggest as you may find if you ordered a size 14 they can take in it quite a bit or let it out if you don't reach your target weight. But when i was trying dresses on they always seemed bigger. I ended up with a size 10 dress when im normaly a size 12-14.

My dress was a Benjamin Roberts one from a local bridal shop, they were able to do plenty of alterations as I lost about a stone between ordering the dress and getting married.

My sister went the opposite way and ordered her dress then found she would be 5 months pregnant on the day, they did a fab job and made the dress bigger and even managed to hide her bump somehow!

I think if you have found a dress you really love you shouldn't not have it in case you lose weight, dresses can be altered.

At the end of the day you only get married once, good luck with your decision.

Just another suggestion...why not look into getting your dress made for you? I did and I got my dress made for £700 by a professional wedding dress maker. It was a gorgeous dress. I was ill and lost lots of weight before the wedding and the dress was altered and finished 3 days before. Depends if you don't mind the potential stress of 100000s of fittings and trying to decide what you want. Just another thought. Mine was comparable to a dress you buy in a shop in terms of cost and it was very personal and fitted me really well. Either way I think people here have given you good advice :D
