I feel a bit lost with weaning at the moment...

Been weaning Max since 17 weeks, he's now 5 months.

Ive been giving him milk and the food separately- should i be giving it at the same time?

I usually do, 10am 8oz bottle, 11ish fruit puree (half a sachet), 3ish 8oz, 5ish veg puree (half a sachet or home made icecube size puree). 7ish one rusk with 1oz milk. 8-9pm 8oz bottle.

He then has one night feed around 3-5am.

I decided to introduce breakfast this morning, so gave him 5oz milk and then porridge after....

shall i keep to the half sachet of fruit n half sachet of veg and the rusk? or is that too much? or is it too little after a month????

Im lost! help!xxx

James is fully weaned and has 6oz bottle and porridge made with3/4 oz at 7ish

4oz bottle and half a 7 month jar and a yogurt at 12ish

A full Ella's 7 month pouch and a fruit pot at 4ish

6oz bottle at 6.30 before bed

Hope that helps I've always given food and milk at the same time with Both my kids never every 2 hours x

Ok thank you, I was giving it separetly so today I gave him 5oz then porridge(made with water). Then at 2pm gave him 6oz with a fruit pot after. Then gonna do 5-6oz with veg puree at 6pm. Then will give a rusk for afters I think. Ill offer a bottle at bed time too.

Does that sound ok? I phoned HV today n she did the whole ohhh its quite early to wean thing- even though my other HV told me to! So I didn't get very good advice off her.

i think its 12-20 oz of milk they need to have when weaning so as long as he takes that then it dosent matter if u give food and milk together or not but if hes not having enough milk then give them seperately so hes not too full for the milk. apart from that i cant help much lol, alyssa is bewnig fussy and preferring to feed herself if possible so has toast lunches lol. tried tangerine segments today but the skins on them make it hard for babies to eat them without teeth lol.

The advice I was given was a pint of milk so about 18oz a day

Also if in doubt make food with his milk it doesn't need to be fluid oz so can be either drank or in food :)

I'm not following guidelines and just going with what Sophie is telling me and she is slowly decreasing her milk intake herself as she is eating more. We are now at around 20oz of milk a day.

Our day goes like this:

6am bottle

Breakfast anytime between 9&10

Bottle before we go to the farm

Lunch time

Bottle at around half 2 then a nap

Dinner

Bottle before bed

Ok brill thanks a lot ladies. Today he ate at 10, 2 and 6 all with milk and followed by food. He then had a little more porridge as id run out of rusks and a bottle before bed. So milk intakes been 25oz so happy with that.

I'm too scared to try things like toast incase he chokes :s :s

Xxx

I do toast in fingers and all Sophie really did at first was suck on it and squash it in her hands rather than actually eat it.
We have had a couple of choking episodes on a muffin with butter before but a swift pat on the back got it out and she carried on quite happily. Xxx

i sat there today and watched Alyssa make a holy mess gumming down on toast, chicken, a hot dog and some cucumber sticks. it was funny and she seemed to love the chicken

Oh wow bev sounds like proper good yummy food there. I feel lilke my fear of his choking is stopping me try new things :s

Think I'm gona wait a few more weeks n hopefully feel a bit more comfortable dooing it then.

What bread do u use for toast? N what do u put on it? Xxx

I was a bit bad and used normal bread, using a small tester first and checking if she was ok and after that used whole meal but you can always get gluten free? I put Lurpak no salt on the toast as well but I know you can toast fingers with pesto and parmesan (fancy cheese on toast lol)

Honestly with the choking thing I don't think it happens that often, obviously they will gag but in the entire weaning journey I would say we have only had max 2 choking episodes and she wasn't even bothered afterwards and kept eating!

Henry likes toast with choc spread lol!

He has:

Booby
Brekkie between 8-9 (toast)
Booby
Sleep
Booby
Lunch between 12-1 (yoghurt/fruit purée)
Booby
Sleep
Booby
Dinner between 4-5 (1/2 jar savoury & fruit or veg & 1/2 jar fruit purée)
Booby
Sleep
Booby
Rusk when we eat between 7-7:30
Bath
Booby
Bed

I also fit in a couple of snacks.

Tapatalking so can't see tickers :(

im on slimming world lol so alyssa gets brown nimble wholemeal bread, and i use whatever spead my oh is using which could be anything from clover to lurpak but if its a salty butter i use only the tiniest smidge, id say that coupled with the amount she eats of it wont do any harm long term but if your giving toast every day then maybe a margarine or unsalted butter would be best :)

Wow larlybelle that's a whole lotta booby :D

What yoghurts can I give him??

I eat wholemeal/granary bread anyway n Bertolli olive oil butter.. Sound ok?

Introducing breakie has gone well so far, just wanna start introducing different foods as fruit/veg puree is getting boring!

Xxx

yeah that bread sounds fine and its up to you with butter, some ppl are very careful about fats and salt and sugar etc some arent (im a terrible mummy lol my baby ate cake yesterday) i give alyssa the smartprice petit filous as theyre thicker than normal yoghurt, just be aware that he might have a lil reaction to anything milk or dairy at first, they say no egg yolk or milk products before 6 months so i avoided them til id been weaning a few weeks to lessen the shock to her system but shes had yoghurt, cheese and egg yolk now and is fine with them. when she was about 4 months old and just starting to get interested in food she had a tiny bit of one of my muller light greek yoghurts and got a lil rash from it but the petit filous dont seem to affect her now at almost 6 months

Ok thanks a lot bev, my HV said he could have yoghurt before 6 months weirdly, I thought u weren't meant to til 6 months. I've been weaning for like 5 weeks but think I might just wait til 6 months for dairy just incase xxx yeah people can be overly concerned sometimes though- a little bit here n there is fine! Xxx

I am not giving any dairy because we have dairy allergy but tbh i would wait until 6 months just to make sure.
They are also not supposed to.have salt and sugar early on, partially because their kidneys will struggle with salt and sugar is empty calories and they might also develop.preference for salty and.sugary food ( i wish someone warned my parents, i ended up with a sweet tooth).
You can give pretty much any vegetables but of course2-3 day rule applies. I wouldnt give egg yet or anything containing eggs but i am very cautious.
I might just give my LO taste of cake for his first birthday but most likely not. He is hyper anyway lol.
As to fats, olive oil is the best, rapeseed oil is good too.
Obviously i.dont give butter but make sure he gets his good fats anyway

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

Oh and be aware petit.filous have sugar in them, Plum.baby youghurts dont. You can give fromage frais and mix with fruit puree of your choice

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

Ok thanks a lot for that info, I've not found any baby yoghurts yet so will look out for those plum ones.

I give just pureed veg or fruit n he does like it, I'm trying to make it a bit lumpier now to get him used to it. I gave him banana chunks instead of mashed banana but he choked on a bit n its put me off :( I was gonna do the same as a carrot later but not sure whether I'm brave enough now lol
