Weaning at 4 months

I weaned my little girl at 17 weeks as milk was not satisfying her at all. She took to it immediately and is now a happy healthy 2.5 year old who eats anything. I am currently weaning my son who will be 18 weeks on Wednesday. He's completely different. He doesn't take that much milk and doesn't seem fussed for it. He's taken to solids well. His wee face lights up whenever I put him in his highchair as he knows what's coming. So far he's had baby porridge, pureed apple, carrot, peas, broccoli, cauliflower and sweet potato all of which have been a hit x

Mrsolly.. Thanks for your reply :)
When do you give your LO food? did you start with first tastes after a morning bottle or in between normal feeds? How much does he take xxx

I started with baby porridge about an hour after his morning bottle. I made it up as per packet instructions and he ate the lot so now I make double that amount. He has more solids about 4pm ish as has bottle at 3 ish. Last night he had half a jar of carrot and sweet potato xx

I am all for letting your baby tell you when they're ready.

Babies go through another leap.around six months and during this time.my baby lost all interest in food and went back to being mostly bfed. Once the leap was over he was all over his food again so I would avoid weaning at the six month mark personally.

We're doing ok at the moment mrslolly, I only started 2 days ago, ive been giving him baby rice with his second bottle at 11am, I give him his bottle first and then give him baby rice, he literally begs for more in between spoons lol! I'm going to start him on single veggies this week... I'm not sure when to introduce them though?? I was thinking switch his baby rice to porridge and then offer veg with his 3pm bottle? What do you think xxx

I always did it in between feeds and he was fed on demand so about an hour after a feed. I always thought if I gave him solids first he wouldn't have enough milk and if I filled him up on milk he wouldn't be hungry enough to have a try of solids.

I started with the veg about 4pm which is an hour after his bottle. Suits us all fine as that's when my 2 year old eats her dinner.

Glad it's going well for you both. My son is the same. He "shouts" at me if I'm not quick enough with the spoon!! Lol xx

Follow your own gut instinct you know your child better than anyone! My health visitor told me I was lucky to get to 6 months to start weaning, I would have done it sooner but I listened to the 'advice' of others & waited! It can be stressful enough the weaning journey as it is & it made me I'll worrying about it but my little boy is healthy & v happy!
