Soooo, baby has been super "advanced" (what an idiotic word!!) and has been up on his feet since about 7-8 weeks. He loves walking about, supported by us obviously, and has an instant smile on his face as soon as he is standing.

Someone told me today that babies can get hip dysplecia if they start to walk early. Can anyone shine any light on this before I consult doctor Google?

Don't google lol! B was the same he never wanted to be sat down he wanted to be up and seeing the world, was walking in a walker at 5 months, 6 months with a push along and unaided by 10.5 months. He's absolutely fine and no hip problems at all.
I found it exhausting holding his hands and walking around all the time but I checked with health visitor at 6 months but she couldn't see a problem at all x

My ds walked unaided at 9.5 months but had been crusing and standing from about 7 months. No problems with his hips.

Thanks girls! Glad to know my baby is not a freak....in an adorable kind of way.

Just because he loves being on his feet doesn't necessarily mean he'll walk early, but he might :) he has just turned four months, so still very early days.

We try to support his weight, but he is quite strong so I do let him wobble on his own at times. Hence the concern about the hip problems....

And well done to your little strong people - that's impressive!!! Next question (hope it doesn't sound wierd), are the babies' legs straight? That's my other concern, as I'd love him to be a gymnast ;););)

I once googled this as our little boy could stand while being supported around that age. He would lock his knees if you tried to lay him down lol. I was worried he'd have bowed legs lol but from my googling it said that it is a good thing to do as you are strengthening their core muscles which will help them in adulthood and prevent things like back problems and will.definitely.not give them bowed legs lol.

The issue with babies hips is caused by leaving them for extended periods in those walkers and door bouncers that have their legs dangling out holes at the bottom.

Littlemonkey, or shitty baby carriers!!!

Thanks ladies. That's very reassuring.

t's actually funny how much stuff he has - bouncers, swings, play gym - but really loves being on his tummy! Just recently bought him a jumperoo, he seems to love that. But as you say, I am a little concerned with the seat arrangement of the jumperoo, When we first got it he was still small and his legs were hanging off from the seat. We waited until he got big enough to reach the floor before letting him bounce about :)

We limit time in jumperoo as Bee adores it.

Also we have a shitty baby carrier so it's only used very occasionally (to run to Dr or shop across road), never for extended periods.

No advanced walking here, Bee does love to be upright but she is a crawler - and causes enough chaos this way lol.

Both mine were late walkers (19.5 months and 17.5 months respectively), but there's a baby I see every week at my daughter's ballet class who's been up on his feet for ages and now at 9 months is cruising around. Babies usually only do stuff that they want and are able to do xx

We had Jackson in the walker from about 4-5m he liked to be walked about too holding hands but he didnt walk till he was about 1. He sat and crawled early, but walking took a bit of time.

When you ladies mention baby walkers, do you mean one of these?

I wanted to get one, but my health visitor said something about them not being great for baby's Achilles heal?? I never know what to believe!!! They look great, and I know my son would actually love one of these.

Yes one of these.

My MW says that Jackson could run upto 30mph and crash into the wall and come out, but if we believed everything MWs told us, we'd never let our babies do anything.

As long as bub has good head control and is stable, whats the harm.

Great to read all the responses on this thread.

Luca is 9 weeks tomorrow and he loves to stand and locks his knees instantly. He think's it's hilarious standing up. Not so impressed with sitting on your lap haha xx

Both mine were very strong on their legs from a few weeks old and both took their first unaided steps at 9 months. My eldest is 2yrs7 months and no issues. She was also carried in a shitty carrier from time to time and loved the jumperoo. My youngest is 10 months and starting to walk more and more confidently. She has been carried in a proper carrier and hates the jumperoo. So far no issues with her!

It's funny cos my girly who is 14 weeks loves being up on her feet, only for a short time, her cousin 7 weeks older doesn't even try to push herself up. We've started letting her use the jumperoo for 5-10 mins with a cushion under her feet, she loves it. She just loves being upright.

Those baby walkers are completely banned in Canada, random I know. Think that put me off getting one, got one she can push around herself from a friend when she is ready.

I know someone who's little boy was walking at 7.5 months he seems ok.

Wow! That's so early for walking. Crazy. That just shows how different all kids are.

Don't worry, she will grow into the jumperoo on no time. We bought ours when baby was about the same age as your girl, he couldn't reach the floor, bless him. Now he stands up by himself - feet flat on the floor!

I don't think I'll bother with a walker. My house is already filled with baby crap as it is.

One more quick question.... Did your babies crawl before walking? Or did they just start walking?.....

Jackson commando crawled, then walked. Some babies go straight to walking though, some crawl or commando crawl inbetween.

Yes big bee that's the type of walker I was talking about. Personally I wouldn't bother with one, biggest waste of space ever!

I never wanted one, I'd heard about them being bad for their hips and my boy is very tall so I knew he would probably be too big for one by the time he could use it. Then the in law's got him one for Christmas because they reckoned he was late walking cos he hadn't started walking by nine months?! So they got it to help! My boy hated it!

Some babies walk before crawling, some skip crawling completely. My eldest was late with rolling, crawling and walking. But he always loved climbing and could climb the stairs before he was walking.
