hi I just wanted to ask if anyone suffers with bad PMS. Mine starts looong before my AF like at least 10 days, I get swollen breasts, bloated and AF cramps till AF starts. When I was younger it was painful maybe 2 days before AF, but the last year its gotten worse. My bra size goes up by 2 sizes and I can't fit into my normal clothes easily. On top of that AF cramps for 10 days. Anyone also has these issues? Does it mean my hormones are all over the place?

Mine is pretty much like that. I don't think it's unbalanced hormones as I have a normal luteal phase. I find dark chocolate helps.

yum well I love chocolates anyway, I could switch to dark chocolate. I also gain around 5 pounds of weight before AF :(

It's probably water weight from the bloating. Your progesterone starts to peak around a week before AF and your estrogen has a mini peak so you're going to be hormonal from around 10 days before AF.

Maybe we notice it more as we get older. My PMT is quite bad when the progesterone spikes and then just before AF the tension starts to mount, with headaches etc. Dark chocolate in particular helps with estrogen as estrogen robs the body of magnesium. Try to get it without too much sugar in it as really junky food isn't good with PMT. Tescos do a nice 85% dark chocolate. Or you can have pure cocoa.

Do you do BBT as that will tell you if your hormones are out of whack?

I had severe pms, Dr gave me Efamol (evening primrose oil) on prescription, I dont think its on prescription anymore but efamol is sold in Boots, I was on a massive dose 6 capsules a day for months, it took a good 6 weeks to work but by god it was a miracle, no pms and no breast pain, periods became regular. I started getting breast pain again recently and tried progesterone cream from ovulation to 2 days before period, worked a charm, used it 3 months like that and never needed it since, that was nearly a year ago. x

Hiya thanks for the efamol suggestion I will definitely look for it in boots. Do you only take it until you ovulate than stop?

At the time back then when I took it I was a teenager so wasn't ttc. I have heard if you take it while ttc you have to stop at ovulation. Efamol is quite expensive, you might be better using Boots own brand, they have a buy 3 for 2 offer on at the moment on all vitamins and supplements. xx

I only started experience symptoms similar to yours when I turned 21, it was really sudden. My worst issue was mood swings, and my doctor explained that the main contributor to this was stress, which made my PMS hell. Talk about your doctor about it, maybe stress is the reason why you are having such a hard time

I really struggle with this too. Mine tends to be terrible the day before / day of ovulation. I'm eating so much dark chocolate following the recommendation of someone on here and I'm also using my boyfriend's magnesium spray to up my magnesium a bit more!
