just wondered if any one had any advice!!!

every time i have had a urine test there has always been protein in my urine and nobody hads really explained this 2 me! i have been on antibiotics six times has anyone else had this problem??

I've had protein in my urine samples a couple of times but the midwife has never been bothered about it.
When i had hospital check yesterday, urine was positive for leukocytes (sp?) which i think are white blood cells. Had them in urine before but this time they made me do another sample, mid stream this time to send to the microbiology lab to confirm if i need antibiotics or not. They said it's prob just down to an increase in discharge, it's not very easy to get a sterile sample!!

It can be a bit confusin!!! got an appointment 2moro they r checkin it again im gonna b asserive and ask my midwife exactly what it means!!

I've had a trace of protein in mine the last 2 times and MW told me i must drink more fluids as this is why andif gets worse will cause an infection so now drinking (and weeing!) alot more so hopefully be gone next time! Not sure if same for you?xx

yeah that sounds the same as me!! they told me to take antibiotics and drink plenty of fluids i now go to the loo at least 40 times a day lol!!!!!

Me too! I have to be so careful when I go anywhere as I know I'll need to go within minutes of leaving the house!! I've been drinking alot more even after the 1st time she told me but it was still showing so am having even more now so will be interested to see if its ok at next appt in 2 weeks otherwise I dont know what more I can do!xx

just got bk frm my antenatal appointment and finally ive been given the all clear!!! she did tell me i need 2 naked more tho to get more air!!! weird!!!!

Yeah, hopefully i'll get the all clear at my next MW appt too then as we both had the same problem and are at the same stage! I cant wait to see if my MW suggests the nude thing too!!! xx

I was always getting 'trace' protein but that's ok apparently and only if I got a substantial amount would it be looked into. When I had lukocytes (sp?) I had a kidney infection, and further on in pregnancy another water infection but less serious. For the kidney infection I had to stay in hospital for a night If you're not sure about it, ask your midwife to explain what it's all about. Too much protein in the urine could lead to UTI, or worst worst case scenario Pre-Eclampsia.. so urine protein is worth taking notice of. If you get sugars in your urine at all by the way you might have to do a GTT (glucose tolerance test) for gestational diabetes.

water infections are pretty common so they're nothing to worry about.. my lucosytes were so high (and my midwife had tested me the day before and said i was fine) that i could hardly move i was in so much pain and got sent to hospital from work by ambulance and given a canister of gas and air. had turned into a kidney infection and the following evening (after the antibiotics they gave me made me vomit constantly) I was kept in hospital on a drip to clear my system out.

that's why i don't want it happening to anyone else. i was 23 weeks and the ambulance crew were convinced i was in early labour (so obviously i was bricking it) and i was sent to the labour ward where people were all being induced and i was like wtf what's wrong with me. until they did a urine sample and sent me on my way with a packet of antibiotics. not nice tho.

so if in any doubt, ask

oh my god i have my 7th UTI of this pregnancy! I finished a course of antibiotics last week when i posted my original question! started feeling really crappy yesterday didint move off the couch all day! woke up this morning still feeling crap phoned the midwife and she told me to go to the docs. went to the docs and surprise surprice a trace of protein and them lucothingys in my urine... everytime i ask y they just tell me that its because everything is so sensitive at the mo!! so im on another course of antibiotics!! she also said that my pulse is a bit fast!!
