My daughter is 7 weeks old, she is breast fed and usually poos 2-3 times a day. Last Friday she did 7 poos, 2 of which were green. She was having her 6 week check that day so I mentioned it to the Dr who said to keep and eye on it. Saturday she did 6 poos, 1 had tiny streaks of blood. Sunday, lots more poos but more normal looking and no blood. Monday morning we got an appointment at the walk in centre because she did another with red streaks. GP suspected gastro enteritis which irritated her bowel but she is otherwise very well so wasn't concerned. Since then she's still been pooing excessively, some look normal, some are greenish but the last one (an hour ago) was pure green slime. Like I say, she's very happy otherwise, no signs of being unwell.

I've been googling and have read a lot about her getting too much foremilk? I don't think this is the cause, she hasn't changed the way she's feeding, surely I would have noticed a change before now? If it was some kind of virus, shouldn't it have passed by now?

Any help or advice would be great! X

If it is a fore milk problem, you could try expressing off for a couple of minutes before feeding LO.

If its a virus unfortunately it's a wait it out situation, it takes the tiny humans a wee while longer to fight the virus so could be another little while. I'd give it a couple of days and go back to go if you are still worried x

Please excuse any typos from my fat fingers!
Tapatalk madness!

Thank you. After a couple more slimey ones yesterday (sorry!) and what looked like the start of conjunctivitis, I phoned the doctor. They've sent off a sample for testing but said it does sound like a virus as its now affecting her eyes. Bless her, she's still not bothered by it.x

My lo was taken to hospital last monday as she was doing a huge amount of poos (more than 10) and they all had blood in them. A sample was sent off and results came back showing a trace of rotavirus - but during the wait she got worse and we also found out she has a cows milk intolerance. My daughter is 5wks

Its not nice seeing blood in their poo, scared me as their was quite alot. Trust your instincts though and get her checked out as many times as you need to

I hope she's getting better. Have they done anything to treat the rotavirus? They've written to test for that on the sample sheet I've handed in. It is scary, it was only a tiny amount of blood so I'm hoping its just from a cut or irritation from all the pooing.x

They cant treat rotavirus its just the usual make sure you keep them hydrated etc. Eva started off just doing nasty nappies then all of a sudden there was blood, each one after that had blood in so i phoned 111 who told us to go straight to a&e, eventually we went to the childrens ward.
Childrens ward told us to leave it til friday (this was on the monday) but if she got worse go to the gp. Wednesday i knew it wasnt right and so went to the gp who said to get her straight onto a prescription milk as she has an intolerance to cows milk protein (that can cause blood in the poo)
It was horrible though so i know how you are feeling, seeing any amount of blood isnt nice.

You could try stopping the dairy in your diet if you are bf'ing and see if that makes any difference?

I'll try that, it won't be hard, I hardly have any dairy, I had to force myself to drink milk and eat cheese during pregnancy so I'd get the calcium but I've been lazy since having her. I have milk on my cereal but that's it. Toast in the morning instead! Thanks for your advice :) x

Thank you, you too.x she seems much better today, just 2 poos so far so hopeful it's the beginning of the enc.

Thats good news! you know youre a mum when you get happy over poo's haha!

My 8mth old had rotavirus an he ended up being rushed to hospital. But don't panic he had a unusual reaction to the sickness and diarrhoea and ended up having 3 days of iv antibiotics (they didn't know it was rotavirus at the time). Make sure she's drinking as my son couldn't keep anything at all down!
