Hi Hun,

As far as I'm aware, the NHS HPTs aren't very sensitive, I'd try a more sensitive one, see below for some info-

Apparently, if a woman is pregnant, the amount of hCG in her system should be around 25 mIU at 10 dpo (days past ovulation), 50 mIU at 12 dpo, 100 mIU at around two weeks dpo.

On average a woman's HCG levels double every 30 hours. Non-pregnant women have HCG levels of 5.

-First response early tests (up to 6 days before AF) 12.5 mIU

-Boots own pregnancy tests 25 mIU

-Clearblue 25 mIU

-Hospital non-branded HCG tests 100 mIU


Also remember some women don't produce enough hCG until 3 weeks after their period is due so don't give up hope of pregnancy if AF hasn't arrived and you still get a BFN.

Good luck - get yourself a proper branded test and if nothing, what harm can it do to just see your doc to put your mind at rest.....?

Thanks for all the advice! I got a clearblue digital test and tested this morning with the result being 'not pregnant', is it worth testing again? I'm not sure whether to wait a week or two to see if I have my period or what the next steps should be? Thanks for any further advice you can give me x

Tara, I'm in the same situation as you. I could be coming up to 5weeks pregnant IF I ovulated when I hoped I did. I've got so many BFNs I'm starting to doubt if this is my month or not.
I want to book a dr app tomorrow and hope they offer a blood test. I should be showing positive on HPTs by now surely! I've tried cheap and expensive tests but still nothing. But still no AF I'm currently 5days late. But I spose there is still chance. We can only hope ay xx

I had this a while back where i didn't have a period for 2 months, sadly I wasn't pregnant I just didn't have a period doctors just made me wait till I came on or get positive preg result :S x Just stress I think with me as my work load had increased at work and I was working alot more and sleeping alot more.. the other time it happened I wasn't working as I was unemployeed ... Best bet is doctors x

Dont give up! you may still be very much pregnant, my MIL when pregnant with my OH never got a positive test until she was 8 weeks pregnant! your hormone levels may just be low, I suggest the doctor, hope you didn't mind me dropping in ! x

I'm not sure if I'll be able to get an appointment at the beginning of the week in the surgery very easily but will I get the same kind of check up if I go to the evening walk in family planning clinic does anyone know? xx

Aw that's a good point hun.. Hmmph, I'd personally go to the drs. But they r both trained up either way to help you. So if its easiler for u to go to clinic I'd go there hun. Just explain all ur dates and symptoms and see what they can advise. I'm not sure if I'm goin to book tomorrow now or not, I'm worried that if I say I'm only 7days late from my period they might ask me to return. Cnt afford to be taking time off work if its still to early to tell.
I spose I think we are all diff hun. U might get ur lucky BFP tomorrow or if could still be another week! I might re set mid week. And get an appointment friday or maybe following monday. Goodluck hun xxx

Thanks - good luck to you too! I'm feeling pretty nervous about going tonight, although I don't think I'll get much of a result because I've already done a digital test and I don't think they will give me a blood test in the clinic? xx

I dnt think they'd do the blood test at clinic. And I've looked into it as I was hoping dr would offer me one. But I think its only for serious reasons. Or medical reasons that a blood test is offered. But worth asking!! X x
