My school uniform was pretty normal - navy blue and marroon, but the skirt had to be bought from school, six panels with a right hand zipped pocket. We used to kneel down in the first assembly of each term and the teachers would go round with a ruler - if your skirt was more than an inch above the ground you got sent home. Everybody had a special first day back skirt.
PE kit was minging - turquoise leotard, maroon gym skirt, white polo shirt and grey hockey socks - really colour coordinated.
