Hiya!

So my OH and I are TTC (soooo excited)!

I’ve been on the pill (Mercilon) for 8 months and the Nexplanon implant for 2 years prior to that.

I was just wondering what your experiences are with conceiving after being on the pill? How long did it take?

Any advice and stories welcome!

Thank you in advance :) x

Hi! I was on a different brand of the pill, microgynon, and was on it for ten years or so. Came off the pill in January this year, had the usual withdrawal bleed, but then didn't have a period until the end of May. We were having unprotected sex all that time just in case, and I was taking seven seas preconception vitamins on the basis that it wouldn't hurt :)

I'm not going to lie, it felt like the longest 6 months ever, and that first period was horrifically heavy - I just tried to stay positive, stay as healthy as I could and not worry too much (ha!) Some people find their cycles pop back quickly, some take longer, but just remember that for the vast majority of women their bodies get back to normal fertility pretty quickly.

For me...I got pregnant two weeks after that first period :) I'm now almost 26 weeks gone and watching my bump move around in front of me as I type. Fingers crossed it all happens quickly and easily for you!

Hi the first time I came off the pill (microgynon ) after 12 years being on it I had 2 pregnancies in 5 months first was ended in a mc but got pregnant with my daughter 3 months after, this time I had the withdrawal bleed then my natural period didn't happen until 43 days then the following month we concieved so I've been very, very lucky both times.

This time I was taking ttc seven seas vitamins and the first time I was just taking volic acid and I did opk's this time too. X

Wow!! Congratulations on your pregnancy! Bet you’re over the moon! I bet those 6 months felt like an eternity though. Thank you for replying, I like to hear others stories to give me some reality on what to expect (even though everybody is different). You always hear myths about the pill messing up cycles for years then on the flip side others conceive straight away. Hopefully won’t be too long for us! Congrats again best of luck with your pregnancy and lovely baby. Xx

Hi ive been on pill for many years. Ive been on diff ones throughout the years trying to find one that suits me best, last one was cerrazette. I came off pill as me and my OH decided it was time. One of the factors was as im now 30. So stopped in sept, i think i had a withdrawel bleed very soon after and my AF came 19 days later. However my cycles arnt regular like clockwork yet , i use an app on my phone to help keep track however the app states diff ovaulate date then the CLearblue Ovulation calculator. Next week will be 3rd month off the pill so hopefully get a BFP soon . All ive been taking is Folic Acid and ive cut down on my caffiene intake as i did drink alot of coffee. I try not to get too focused on just DTD in my fertile window but it is harder said then done. Ppl say just try to DTD 3 times a week but due to i working shifts this is hard to do everyweek as everyother week me and my OH are like ships passing in the wind and its annoying when it turns out that that week is week of Ovulation so feels like im already out that month. I wont lie to you, its fun DTDbut it can also be an emotional rollercoaster. I think also it doesnt help that men dont understand it like we do. Some think you can concieve at any point during ur cycle (which ive read that is very very unlikely.) Im glad ive joined this forum as it gives me a place to talk about things my OH doesnt understand or will think im too obsessed. So everyone's body is different in how long it takes to get back to normal after BC and how long it takes to get our BFP . Wishing you luck on this new exciting and emotional journey.

Hey!

We are in a similar situation! I just came off bc pill on Friday and having my withdrawal bleed today. A little confused as to when I should start tracking ovulation, should I count this withdrawal bleed as a new cycle etc! It’s all so confusing!

Jemmlove - i didnt include the withdrawel bleed as a new cycle . I just counted from day my 1st period started (after withdrawel bleed) to day before my next period started. Some ppl say to wait to TTC till you get ur 1st period as this helps with dating of edd if concieve that quick . I didnt and couldnt wait .

Yeah I think I’m too impatient and praying I’ll be in the small percentage of bc pill ladies who ovulate straight away! Highly doubtful but a girl can dream! That makes sense though. Just need to get this withdrawal bleed out the way so we can get everything back working normally again!!

I was on a different pill - Microgynon - for 10 years. I came off it mid-September and am now 9 weeks pregnant.

In answer to Jemmlove's post - I started tracking ovulation straight away, just because I like to know haha. I counted the first day of my withdrawal bleed as CD1 and started using OPK's on CD10. I ovulated late (but was surprised to ovulate at all first month!) on CD22.

My doctor advised me to wait until my first 'proper' period to TTC, but the nurse at my practice told me this advice was old fashioned and only given because its easier for the NHS to estimate due date, and no medical reasoning for it.

Hope this helps! x

With my first, I had been on Microgynon for 10 years, and was pregnant within 3 months.
I have now been on cerrazette for 2 years and it seems I'm pregnant within the first month after stopping, as I see faint lines on the 3 tests I took between yesterday and today :-)

I was on Triphazel on and off for at least 12 years. Stopped the pill in May, had a normal breakthrough bleed, first real period after ovulation 43 days after. My cycles have now stabilized to 35 days where O happens on CD21/22. I'm in my 5th cycle actively TTC (first two cycles were NT). Still waiting for my little bean. It can take some couples up to 2 years to conceive naturally. Usually people go and get tested after a year with no bfp. FX :dust:

Hi, I was on the implant for nearly 4 years(obviously not the same one in all that time lol) I had it removed in June. Had a withdrawal bleed then 19 days later I had a period. I tracked o as soon as I came off just to see if I was. I conceived in august and am currently 14 weeks.
However completely different story with ttc my first. Before him I was on the injection. After letting it come out my system it took me 7 months to get a period and then it took me 3 cycles to conceive.

Good luck ttc and I hope your wait isn't too long.
