Hi ladies, so I decided to hire a breast pump in order to feed Ryan from the bottle occasionally. I foolishly tried it for the first time in town yesterday and he hated it, spat most of it out and I ended up running around trying to find a spot to breastfeed him.*
Do you think this is because it's the first time or do some babies like one kind of bottle/teat as opposed to another? I used a 0 months chicco one and I hadn't warmed it up but it was transported in a padded bag and it was 18 C outside. Any ideas?

How old is he? I didnt try expressing until G was 6 weeks and totally happy with bf. He wasn't a fan at first and did need it to be heated up a bit. I persevered with it for an evening feed (in the middle of when he would cluster feed) because I just really needed the break in the evenings between feeds and it worked whilst i needed it (dropped it by about 6 months). You may just have to give him time to work it out cos it's a different motion to bfing.

Arthur won't take a bottle either - he used to but about 7 weeks ago rejected it. I you figure it out let me know bc I'm knackered!

He's 7 weeks old. I will just have to persevere i suppose but I was so hoping OH could take over 1 feed a couple of times a week as I am shattered and desperately need a hand.
I'm probably just being impatient (as usual).

I would keep trying and maybe get someone else to do it for the first few times, in a place where you wouldn't usually feed him. I think I tried too late with Toby because Sam was fine with bottles from the start, and he'd never drink from one. Definitely worth trying it warm too x

Isla didn't take a bottle until 8/9 months. She hated them. I tried so many different bottles as well, spent a fortune! Try holding baby in front of you like on your lap facing away from you, or get someone else to try it for you x

I've only tried giving him a bottle of expressed milk once as I never seem to have any spare as he's so hungry! He refused to take the bottle from me but loved it from my hubby and downed it really quickly so keep trying, maybe at home when your not stressed and let your OH give it to him. I used the advent bottle that came with my pump.

Tried warming bottle and letting my dad (who's visiting) feed him and it worked!
Very Pleased! Not so pleased at him still being awake while OH and dad sleep and I have to leave the house at 7 for blood tests.. Grrrrr

So glad it worked :yay: Make sure you keep giving him one every few days so he gets used to it. Hope you get some sleep x

Got him to sleep at 2am and up in an hour and a half!
At least with my dad here I can get some naps in this afternoon!
Will try again tonight with another bottle. Thanks for the advice

Well done, stick with it though - I didnt give G a bottle for a few days once and then had to really work to get him to take it again, although I didnt have anyone else to do it with DH away so that might not have helped.

Hello - i've been expressing and giving a bottle from week one a couple of times a week when my sis comes round to give me a break (i didn't realise you were supposed to wait until Week 6 until I got the Bounty email!). He took to it really well however he point blank refuses to have it if it's slightly cold! I was on the train the other day and ended up having to get my boob out becaue he screamed even more when I tried with expressed bottle. He knows what he likes and he doesn't like COLD MILK hehe.

Yesterday I bought a thermos type thing which keeps bottles warm for up to 5 hours.
Will try it tomorrow and let you know!
