Hi All.
I need your help (please)!
My wife has just given birth to our new baby boy.
The birth went REALLY well, he was born in under 3 hours and she lost almost zero blood. Baby is also really good.
She left the hospital the day after we was born.
The problem is Tammy is have really bad depression, she had this also after our first son also (he’s 3).
She really wants to go out and visit people, do a little shopping etc (nothing strenuous of course), how soon should she start to do this???
Medically she is fine, and I think the light walks and ‘being a mum’ will do her good!
Also her family live about 2 hours away and we were due to stay with them in a couple of weeks…
Does this sound right or is it toooo much?
This question has come from the HV saying she shouldn’t do anything... Does this mean stay in bed… or is it more… don’t go doing loads of house work and start lifting heavy stuff (you get what I mean).

Many Thanks!

i say for the first few days just take it really easy no house work just enjoy being a mummy! i went for a small walk 3 days after which was nice but tired me out. i'd say she'll be ok 2 visit family and they'll help her which will give u both some rest

I think small walks, short distances if she feels up for it and feels it will help are ok. I'm sure hv means don't go walking for hours, miles away from home or carrying the Hoover up and down the stairs etc. Maybe you could go out for a meal as a whole family? She should take it easy but do small things that might help her feel better.

I'd say for her to do whatever feels comfortable for her.

I had a tramatic labour and birth, was home just under 36 hrs later (my choice), I think I stayed at home for a couple of days before we went out. I hate being cooped up.
Everyone is different.

Congratulations :)
