My boy is 9.5 months this week and he will start at kindergarten on thursday. It's one of the few daycare centers in Oslo that accept babies under 11 months old and my son will be the youngest of his "class". He has been a bit shy with strangers for the last couple of months and sometimes when he isn't particulatly happy with having eaten and slept, any small discomfort makes him cry and cling on to me. I'm just wondering how this might play out if I'm not around at all and he needs me. I feel it's too early to be separated from him on a daily basis, but I don't have any other option.

Does anyone have experience with this? Did you notice any changes to their behaviour or your relationship with your LO after they started kindergarten?

It's slightly different here in the UK. I went back to work full time when my eldest was six months. I'm also going back when my youngest is six months, although I will be working part time evenings, so will be home with my boys all day.

I think it's worse for us mums than our babies having to leave them! My eldest settled in really well with the childminder really quickly.

My sons been in childcare since 6 months! He's done great and really progressed well compared to some others his age

In the UK they take them as young as 3 months with a lot children going in around 9-12 months

I'm sure baby will be fine :)

My LO has been in nursery since 7 months old. I definitely notice a huge difference to Jackson compared to other wee ones his age, primarily his speech, shapes, and numbers etc.

Some people tear themself up to send their LO to nursery however, they are going to be in school most times as parents work, they need to adjust. Also, for me it gives Jackson time to play and learn and make friends.

My wee one is 2 and is already moved into the big room (3-5 years), aiming to start school at 4 1/2.

Personally, for us, Nursery is a good thing.

Thank you all for your replies! I guess it will go well, it's just a bit unusual here so I had no frame of reference.

I'm hoping it will boost his verbal skills too, he's been so busy crawling and standing up he doesn't care about much else :P
