Too early for routine?

My FIL lives ten minutes away and we've seen him twice in 4 months, thank goodness. Stuarts grandad is a pain in the ass though - he'll 'pop in' a couple of times a week and expects us to drop everything for him. We get a right telling off if we're not in, but because it's big scary GRANDAD and he'll be pushing up daisies before long, we daren't say anything.

Get her told - we're meant to argue with our in-laws anyway

My goodness that is the craziest thing i have ever heard! would be funny if it wasnt such a problem for you. :(

would they think it was acceptable to come over in the middle of the night? no of course not so why is it acceptable to keep a little baby up past the point that she is tired?

he he i'd take her round at three am and if they didnt like it say they were restricting her access to her grandparents!

or a more subtle approach might be to ask them if they would like to come over a little earlier so they can bath her? my parents and inlaws love to bath alex and then see him off to bed (goes to bed like a little lamb for them too  )

id go for the 1st one though - more fun

Lol, Em! :D

or..what time does Olivia wake up in the morning, Lucy? You could offer your Mil to come and cuddle her before she goes to work? and help her go back to sleep!

sorry, not very helpful, but I find your Mil very selfish!
wait and see when mine comes over from Pakistan...and lives with us for 6 months!!!!! you will probably hear about it!!!!!!!! :wall: :wall:

My MIL sees Charlie every week even though she lives an hour and a half away. OH goes to pick his son up every week from the same village, so she gets to see her weekly. She just enjoys a cuddle and a little time with her, and she isnt demanding at all.
My mum is an hour away and she sees Charlie every other week.
Good luck with getting getting things sorted with her. x

Wow Mel 6 months?! you are one brave lady!

i love my mil dearly she is fab but couldnt live with her now (did it for 18 moths before we were married and then for about two months in between houses a few years ago). its so different once you are used to running your own home your way.

Fingers crossed your mil will respect that its your home and your rules :?

hmmmmmmm! will see about that!
she comes from Pakistan and her visa will be for 6 months. Plane Tickets are too expensive for her to come only 1 or 2 months
She will go and visit the rest of family in Manchester, and glasgow, but yea, she will be with us pretty much for 6 months! I am a bit worried about it, it's not just the MIL thing, it's also a different way of seeing lfe, and am not sure it will work well all the time!
I am not looking forward to it, to be honest, but at the same time, I don't want to stop her from coming and seeing her grand-daughter!
oh well, there is time before this happens! don't want to overworry over it!

Oh Lucy I am howling here!!!!

Tell them to mind there own. I know what you mean though. My MIL actually bought me the Gina Ford book and when she was looking after her and I was telling her what time stuff was she said "Oh I wish I hadnt of bought that book now" GRRRRRR

Its ok for them though - they can go home at the end of the evening and not have a crying baby to deal with - you stick to your guns!
