I'm really at the breaking point of giving up BF. Lo has a tongue tie and although we have been assured its not a bad one he is hopefully having it snipped next week. Im not sure I can battle on for any longer though. My boobs are so painful I feel like crying all the time. When I'm not screaming in agony because he's latched on, I'm crying out of guilt for dreading him waking up because I know he'll want feeding. I feel like I'm really letting him down because I feel like I just can't push through any longer. I've already started giving him a bottle of formula at night because 2 hours of excruciating agony of cluster feeding is torture. Everyone keeps giving me the same advice but it just doesn't seem to work, nothing makes it less painful. I get told that once his tie is snipped it will get easier but it could be a week before its done, I'm not sure if I can do another feed, never mind a week of feeds. Just feel so sad and guilty for being such a wimp and failing my first born

I'm sorry you're having such troubles. Our little one also had a tongue tie and really struggled to learn how to latch on (and did me some serious damage in the early days), so I know how you feel. I spent days in tears because I hated feeding her but over time it has got better. Breastfeeding is so much harder than I think anyone expects so well done for persevering so far with a tongue tied little one! Is there a reason it will take them so long to snip it? Could you express for a bit to give yourself a break?

Oh honey I feel your pain. Mine has a severe tongue tie which I only found out was the cause of my pain at 5 weeks. Like you I didn't think I could carry on but he's 6 months on Monday and feeding from my boob completely pain free as I type.

I'm so glad I carried on, but understand you, I almost didn't.

If you can afford it, book a private midwife. We did this anyway as nhs offered us nothing. It cost £100 and was done the day after I called her. every day is so difficult at this stage but you can do it.

And be prepared, once it's done it takes a little while to got better but it does improve and before you know it you'll be there.

We're here, keep talking xxx

Oh Hun- :( Oscar had tongue tie and it wasn't a bad one but I demanded they do it so he was sorted at a week old- why don't you buy a cheap manual pump and express feed him till he has it snipped? It will be easier on your boobs and give you abit of a break?

Maybe call your HV or doctors and ask for it to be done sooner because your going to give up bf- maybe a few tears? It usually gets me where/what I want

You've done so well! I EBF untill 6 weeks where I've gone to expressing and the odd formula bottle - mainly because of Oscar but it's surprising how it can give you a fresh leap and new focus

Chin up - hope you manage to continue - honestly consider the express route xx

Hi I've tried for an hour to post a practical reply to MrsTLC with links to resources. The anti spam system means I can't. If you accept my friend request maybe I'll be able to DM the info to you. Sorry you are going through this, there are solutions.
