Hi everyone,

It's been a week since my little guy was born and I can't believe he is here.

On the tuesday I woke as normal and packed oh off to work. The previous days had been false alarms so I convinced him nothing was going to happen. By mid morning I started to get really strong back pain, I rang my sis who had a back labor to ask her advice. She said a bath and get oh home just in case. So a bath run and oh was on his way home.

The bath helped but I was still uncomfortable. After lunch I suggested we walk the dog hoping this would help. It did, the back pain disappeared to be replaced by contractions that were 1 min long and 5 mins apart. So before dinner I rang the birthing centre to ask their advice and they told me to come in.

Was examined and found to be 3cm so was given a sweep and sent home with the mw, who was lovely saying she'll see me before her shift finishes at 9 or I'll see you in the morning.

So off home for some dinner and to try to rest. My oh was really supportive as each contraction got closer and stronger. By ten o'clock I was finding the contractions tough and decided to call the unit again. They said to come in and were brilliant.

My mw's were diane and anne maire i was Gutted to find I was only 4cm but was settled into a lovely room. I kept going as long as I could before using the gas and air, this was around midnight when I was at 6cm. That stuff is awesome and I pretty much wouldn't let it go at all. My oh kept talking to me, keeping me drinking and was just amazing all the way. There was at one point where the gas and air sent me into a fit of giggles. Was definitely high as a kite.

By 2am I was asking for the pool and once examined and finally at 9cm was helped to it. It was amazing just the best feeling add the gas and air and I was coping. Each contraction was horrible but my oh just kept me going through these. By 3am I remember looking at my hubby and he just knew I need to push. Went off to grab the mw's. this was the hardest part as I was shattered by now but knowing I needed to push gave me the strength to keep going.

In the pool Toby was born at 0409 and placed straight into my arms. It was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. My oh cut the cord after a while and was handed his son as I went through stage 3. I remember looking up and seeing my hubby holding our boy and thinking we did it.

I had some lovely cuddles and the mw's were amazing with the aftercare as well. I'm so glad I went to a birthing centre. We were all home by midday Wednesday and both love our little boy to bits.

Xx
