It's nearly Christmas, lots of events and things are coming up. I've been invited to at least 3 things that involve drinking. One this weekend, one end of November and I'm sure they'll be more in December.

Has anyone got any tips on how I get out of this without it being blaringly obvious that I'm pregnant? I don't want people knowing yet, but surely not turning up to things or not drinking will out my precious info?

x

If you normally have a couple of drinks and now suddenly refuse there is a good chance somebody is going to say 'Are you pregnant'?!?!

I would probably say that I am taking antibiotics for something and can't drink alcohol.

I have always been the designated driver so don't have to worry about them asking :D

I normally have a couple of drinks so they'd know something was up haha. Antibiotics is a good excuse, I like it!! thanks :D

Yes I would deffo go for the antibiotics or have the alcohol free cocktails - beer xx

I had a hen do to go to when I was only 8 weeks pregnant with DS! I actually told one of the other girls that I was good friends with and told her I wasn’t ready to tell and asked for her help. I drank my drinks slowly and only got drinks on her round or mine  no one suspected a thing! I did have a very small glass of prossecco at the start of the evening as we met at the bride to be’s House and started on that. I told her I wasn’t a fan of wine or champagne so only to pour me a small glass to toast with :) worked a treat!

I am usually a drinker, and the few times I've been out since finding out, I've drunk lemonade and lime. People assume it's vodka, and I've yet to be asked why I'm 'not drinking'.

In the past (when I have actually been on antibiotics!) I find that telling people I'm on antibiotics prompts an eye roll and a bit of a joke about pregnancy, because you can drink on most antibiotics now.

Alcohol free is a good idea because it looks like the real thing. I've a friend who ordered bottled beer through her pregnancy, then emptied it in the sink in the toilets before refilling with water!

love these sneaky tricks, will definitely be using some!! xx

I NEVER believe the antibiotics line if I’m honest, so have never used it. I either order lime and sodas which look like vodka or alcohol free beer and decant into a glass. Or virgin cocktails of course. You could also one of the nights say you’re driving because you have to be up for (insert believable excuse here) first thing in the morning.

maybe befriend a bar lady/man and ask for a coke in a glass that's the same as a coke and mixer glass rather than a pint glass

I'm usually driver so I don't worry too much although my BIL has definitely sussed me already

good idea!! I think you can get alcohol free Kopparberg which is my favourite actual alcohol, so I can give that a go x

Yes you can and it actually tastes like kopperberg too I was surprised at how it tasted like the real thing get it poured in a glass though as they say it quite clearly alcohol free in blue/ white on both front and back xx

Its so hard cos people always suspect it as soon as you don't drink! I also never believe the antibiotics thing, you actually can drink on antibiotics it was just something doctors used to tell people so they didn't go out and spread disease back in the day. It would depend how gullible your friends are haha. I always just bought my own drinks and had either coke or fresh orange and would say there's vodka in it. The alcohol free beers are good but they do say on the label so people might click on. Could always say youre on a diet/health kick to cleanse befoee the christmas binge so not drinkung for a month? Xx

This thread is genius! Thanks for all the handy sneak hints :) I have a wedding this week I was dreading, now not so much x

I just love how sneaky everyone is! and at least there's more than one option to go with so you're not doing the same sneaky move at every event! x

I have in the past had gin and tonic with lime minus the gin! No ones going to ask to taste it to double check! Just might get tricky if buying rounds....e.g when its not your turn to go to the bar! Failing that do you drive? Say you have to drive as you need to pick OH up? X

Just ask if you go for alcohol free beer for it to be put in glass x

Ooh I had this at the weekend I was a bridesmaid. I did a few things - accepted a glass and then "lost" it, pretended to drink using a straw and passing my drink back and forth to someone else to actually drink, mocktails are good cos they look real too! And then I said I had to drive home so didn't have to pretend for the evening

Mocktails and kopperberg alcohol free have saved me on many occasions over the last few months as I'm a fruity/cocktail girl myself.

So glad I don't have to worry about this! I told people before I got pregnant with this one I won't be drinking as I don't like it when I'm with a nearly 3 month old. Plus no one would suspect I'm pregnant this soon after Scarlett anyway aha.
I used to say I was on anti biotics but like said before in this most people don't believe it!
You can always get a drink of coke or lemonade and say there's some sort of alcohol in there.
Or say you've got a busy day the follwoing day so don't wanna have a drink! X
