finleys got thrush in his mouth bless him :( hes cryig loads, went to doc today and got some drops..... doc didnt say i needed anything though :?

anyone elses baby had this so early on????

The docs are so annoying, you'd think they'd realise you both have to be treated otherwise it gets passed back and fourth :wall:

I know its common in babies born by c-section as they give you antibiotics through the IV.

I had it quite bad myself a few weeks after my section but it didn't show on Leorah. they gave me cream for my nips that gets passed to the baby when feeding, I eventually had to have oral capsules though.

We seem to have it again so I am using the cream hoping to nip it in the bud this time, it doesn't seem to bother Leorah.

I hope your LO is well again soon

Hi Sassy

Connor got diagonised with this today by my midwife. He was born by C-Section 10 days ago and she said it's very common.

Prescribed some Daktarin gel to be rubbed on his tongue and roof of his mouth twice a day until it's gone. She didn't say anything about treating my nipples as she sais the gel in Connor's mouth would get passed back to me anyway.

However, he's just been quick sick so I don't know if its the gel upsetting him.

instead of going doctors contact your midiwfe instead. Midwives are much more up to date on the latest treatments for such things and know what medication is safe to take etc.
:)

i got a gel for Harley when he had it its a orange gel rub it on the tounge cleared up with in 2 days.

with Dior when she was a baby i was given a white medicine.

i had thrush when i gave birth so thats how my 2 got it. i always have thrush when i am pregnant

i got that for alfie he was 2 weeks old when he had his and i thought it was sick on his tongue i kept trying to get it off and it wouldnt budge, the gel clears it up quick and alfie loved it

i rang the midwife and she said to go to doc to get a prescription, he was sick loads last night, i dont know if its cos of the drops theyve given him, its called nystatin and tastes like gaviscon :puke:

hopefully itll clear up soon as he is really uncomfortable when feeding bless him :(

I have heard that the success rate of the nystatin drops is less than 20% as it is a liquid and runs of the babies tongue. The daktarin gel stays put and therfore treats the infection. I have some recent info on this and I am using the daktarin gel at the min.The prescribed amount is 2.5ml twice a day but I have been advised to give 5ml 4 times a day and use the cream for my nipples after every feed. ( as every one has said the infection just gets passed back to baby from you if you don't oth get treated.)

I would see your HV and ask for a prescription ( most are nurse prescribers now and can issu)e these.

im seeing HV on monday, will mention it to her as it looks as though its getting worse and not better, his full tongue and lips and inner mouth are covered now, it wasnt this bad 2 days ago

its no wonder the doctors is always full if they dont give the best treatment  means having to go back when the rubbish they give you doesnt work

Yer that sounds about right

Good luck with the HV hun - I have found that the nurses are normally far more up to date with things than the GP! :?

Your poor llittle man it must be sore for him to have such a lot of thrush in his mouth... I hope things clear up quickly for you...

it seems a lot better today, but ill still see what HV says tomorrow when she comes round, ive nearly ran out of the drops now and its still all over his mouth but not as bad as his tongue
