So we recently had 2 nights in hospital

Max wasn't waking for feeds so they advised I express n give it him via syringe or bottle anyway

My oh gave him 2oz in bottle n he was still hungry I had to put him on boob after then I had 3 oz left my oh gave him that tonight but again he wasn't full so he went on boob again

So my question is what is the point of expressing? Because it seems my oh has to keep stopping to wind him then he's not full anyway and wants more?

I don't know your situation that well but I've never heard of them recommending doing it that way round!

Usually, you have to put baby to the breast for as long as you can, keep trying to wake them getting them to take more. Once you can't get them to take any more boob, then change their nappy & give them the bottle of expressed milk.

That's what I had to do anyway!

How old is Max? Is there a reason why you need to express, is it just so your OH can help out?

Breastfed los often like to cluster feed and it sound like exactly what he is doing. I could never really see the point of expressing as was far easier to give boob straight away. How do you find expressing, do you have a good supply? Baby always tends to get more than pump does!

He wouldn't wake even when put to the breast , nappy changed, clothes off nothing from 5pm until 12.30 am
As you can imagine I was very full so they told me to express with machine used abit of it in syringe on lips to see if that would rouse him but it didn't then they spoke of putting tube up nose and down into his tummy if he still didn't wake up for a feed.

He finally woke at 12.30 am after I was demanding a doctor and then had boob but I had expressed 6 oz if milk off literally 15 mins before so next night when oh came they said u could use some if my milk in bottle if oh wanted to feed so we did but I hated it just crying and as I say he wasn't full anyway.

I was going to try expressing in a few weeks because I have to go to the farm in winter and be handy to leave max with oh while I go so he's not sat in cold and dark while I sort the horse out but if he's not going to be full I don't see the point in me doing it?
I have a very good supply of milk I think as that night I expressed 6oz first time ever doing it and max woke up and still got a 20 min feed out of me

Breast feeding isn't just about milk, its about comfort, closeness etc as well,

When I first left DD1 with MIL and expressed milk she drank LOADS, as she got more used to the bottle/being left the amount went down.

It may not be that he wanted milk, just that he wanted boob/mum/cuddle iykwim
