This might be trivial but I could cry!

Mega rant sorry :(

Bought my nursery furniture on Boxing Day sales and finally the room was in a position to assemble the furniture. I'd say I spent in the region of 4-5 hours putting together the cot bed and changing table, all the while feeling underwhelmed by the quality (a slight over tighten of a screw crumbles paint, minor marks, dents etc) . The 'dropside' on the cot bed was a NIGHTMARE I tried so hard to keep calm but it was clunky and kept jamming and wasn't a smooth manoeuvre etc etc etc.

Anyway finished it all full of aches and pains and it all looked nice in the room at a distance. spoke to my husband about being disappointed with the quality, he tested the changing table as one of the pre assembled parts wasn't fully tightened, long story short the changing table came apart, the drawer fell through then the shelves also came out of the runners it's basically a wreck.

I'm so glad that happened with us testing it and not with our baby clambering on it in a few years, but I'm also GUTTED. I don't want replacements, it's factory made I'm sure it will all be the same, I don't want to assemble more furniture and I don't want to have to take it all to the tip even if we are refunded. I'd planned it all out in my head and I just do not know what else to get now.

I'd already been in touch with the company twice because it seemed like parts were missing due to misleading instructions,They did send me parts quickly which I ended up not needing (They had just changed a few parts I think so they didn't match up). Also, parts of the drawer (fair enough ended up being hidden) were lilac instead of white and I couldn't tell if they were going to be visible (in my boys room) after assembly but I wasn't overly impressed with the help on the phone.

There's more to it... but Anyway, I've wasted my Friday on this and a lot of built up excitement for getting it done, I truly didn't think I'd bought a cheap set either albeit on sale ...and now I'm really achey and sore with nothing good to show for it.

I'm so sorry for my rant I appreciate worse things happen but I'm venting!

P.s. Can you recommend any nice white furniture sets?

Doesn't sound trivial at all, I'd also be really upset. This is pretty much why I chose to buy second hand and paint them all myself, I couldn't bare to spend that much money and be disappointed by the quality

Yeah agreedI was just struggling to find matching or non damaged second hand sets, I thought it would be hassle to arrange a van to collect so I thought I'd struck gold in the sales.

I'm so achey and gutted I worked today and wasted the evening doing that. Also just occurred to me the mattress I bought might not fit a new cot and it's probably too late to return. Just keeps getting better!!

Hi, I've got a second hand boori furniture set in English oak, it also comes in white. Might be worth looking on eBay. Not sure how much they are as ours was bought for us.
Sorry to hear of your disaster, nothing is worse when hormones are raging xxx

Aww Hun it sounds horrible. We got ours from mamas and papas on both occasions and they have been ok. Wouldn't say it was absolutely amazing quality but sounds better than what you are describing and now it's been put together it's rock solid.

Oh Mel :-( I would feel exactly the same. The though of having to do it all again would really get me down too- those things are so hard to build.

I think you should demand that they give you some money back so that you can get a carpenter in to sort it out- it might be that with better tools and a few extra bits it could be salvaged without you having to go back to the beginning with it. I had this with a dresser I built for our kitchen a few years ago- I didn't do a great job of it and it was like he just waved a magic wand as it ended up perfect.

It sounds like they've really screwed you over- can't believe some parts are lilac even! So unfair. I would feel just like you.
Virtual hugs!

thanks so much! Admittedly I was being a bit ott about the lilaac parts as it turns out they aren't really on show, but it was annoying starting the process not knowing if they would be.

I sincerely hope they send a new changer at minimum however I've kinda lost faith in the product and don't agree with all the dowels and the changes from instruction manual but ill try and be reasonable.

already decided to not mention the cot issues, might be more hassle than it's worth. Urgh!

was excited to get a step closer to finishing but we'll get there!

Dont expect anyone to read this but im just venting sorry....

They sent a replacement changer (or tried to) they actually sent two boxes of half the unit still with questionable parts so we asked for a refund as time was short and we totally lost faith in the product.

Ended up in a position where the place I bought the furniture and the supplier have different opinions on what I need to return to get my refund.

Where I bought says return boxed items and dismantle the rest and tape the together as well as we can , supplier says return boxed items and bin the rest. I was dubious so didn't rush out to bin the stuff. Eventually supplier agreed to collect boxes and furniture 'taped together; but they never collected from where we had left it (off the ground) in good weather on the agreed date. There is so much we cant store it indoors and as they missed the agreed date have had to leave it out in poor conditions. The supplier got back in touch and said again bin everything except the boxed items (we still didnt bin just in case) and they still never collected the boxed items. AGAIN the place we bought said EVERYTHING must be returned, but this time they said we had to fully repackage anything that wasnt boxed bearing in mind this is a dismantled cot and changing unit which has been out in snow & rain and we have no boxes!! I dont want to buy specialist boxes and spend hours packaging when I doubt they'll ever collect/ refuse refund because of weather damage.

So basically we spent 10+ hours, bought tape, totally stressed out by it and then had to replace the furniture at our own cost and looks like we will never get a refund.

So sick of online purchases, it seems any expensive item i buy something goes horribly wrong, I give up!!!

If I had a van, I think second hand would have been the way to go!

I purchased the Mamas & Papas ocean cot bed... everything else has been Ikea :) very pleased with both :)

that sounds nice & yep we went Ikea in the end because we are so short on time. Thankfully it seems solid!!
