So, finally getting a chance to write this as other half is out wetting the baby's head and Spencer is finally asleep! Sorry if it turns out to be a long one.....

So on Wednesday 27th February I was walking around Tesco at about 11pm and felt a bit of a trickle...checked my pad and it was just clear water. Decided to keep an eye on it overnight as it wasn't loads.

Thursday came around and I was doing housework etc for my Husbands South African relative staying over and realised that the baby hadn't moved all day which is unusual and I was still a bit trickly. Went up to triage at 1pm and was on trace for an hour...baby's heart rate was really low at just 98bpm but varying to 110bpm. The midwife did an internal with a speculum and confirmed waters were still intact but she pulled out all of my plug! she also confirmed that baby was back to back. Husband arrived at 3pm and we were sent to get something to eat to see if baby's heartbeat would rise. Whilst in the canteen I started getting pretty painful braxton hicks every 5 mintues. Returned to triage and she said they were definitely braxton hicks even though I was in aboslute tears and most of the pain was in my back. Told to go home and take 2 paracetamol and phone if they got closer together - she stressed we HAD to call before coming in!

So my parents came and collected me, hubby and his Aunt and went home. At this time contractions were coming every 4 minutes and lasting a minute and a half. Hot bath eased them but not much. So three hours later they started getting unbearable, I was on my hands and knees and husband tried to call triage for an hour and a half without getting an answer. Eventually after going to the toilet and seeing that I was gushing with blood (actually running down my legs) I told him just to call my parents. By this time they were only two minutes apart.

Parents arrived within 5 mins and got me to hospital. We were locked out as it was late at night an it took them ten minutes to let us in!!! By this time the pressure in my bum was unbearable. My dad wheeled me up to labour ward where the midwife shouted at us for not calling first!!!!! Hubby shouted at her to get me seen to ASAP. She demanded a urine sample which I tried but ended up finding I was pushing whilst on the toilet! Eventually she sighed and came in to examine me...the shock on her face when she realised I was 8.5cm dilated was golden!!! By this time contractions were 30 secs apart and I had to WALK to delivery suite!!

Pushed for about 25minutes, waters exploded over the end of the bed and the midwife and baby turned whilst he was coming out! Absolutely zero pain relief, not even gas and air! Sadly didn't get that "rush of love" they all talk about but was still on a high!

Now...the kinda traumatizing part...I had to get 16 stitches inside and out as he tore me pretty badly whilst turning, it took two and a half hours for her to do it and I was bleeding pretty badly. Dad had loads of skin to skin contact as I wasn't allowed to hold him. Hubby left after that, midwife got baby latched on breast for me and the midwife left and said she'd be back in a minute to change my sheets. an hour passed and she still wasn't back, I was lying in bed covered in blood, the sheets were covered in blood and my waters and she hadn't put any pants on me or sanitary towels so I was bleeding everywhere. She also hadn't lowered the bed after stitching me up so I spent about 10 minutes trying to jump off with baby in my arms and newly done stitches. Eventually managed it and I was bursting for a wee...hobbled to the toilet dripping blood everywhere and got back in to bed.

Eventually 6 hours...yes, SIX HOURS after having the baby another midwife came in to change my sheets and let me shower (and had a moan that I'd got blood all over the floor!!!)

And the following day I had to get out of bed and go to reception to ask for a glass of water as they hadn't given me any.

They wanted to discharge me at 11am (less than 12 hours after delivering my first ever baby!!!) but I said I didn't think baby was feeding well so they wanted to observe a feed but baby didn't wake up until 4pm lol. The entire day I was left completely by myself apart from people coming to do the usual checks on baby. I was in a room by myself, with no one to talk to, no phone signal and nothing to do! Wasn't even given painkillers!

I'm absolutely disgusted with the aftercare, it has actually left me traumatized by how alone and vulnerable I felt. The labour I'd do again no problem, it wasn't that bad but never ever in that hospital.

and to top it off, because they didn't show me how to latch baby on properly, the first two days at home were horrendous as baby was really really poorly from lack of food and we both got re-admitted to hospital!!

I'm so so pleased he's here now but god it's left me feeling so poorly!

OMG!!!!! i cannot believe what i have read!! that is disgusting!!! the after care u recieved is awful! how they left u with dirty sheets! no water! and just moaned!! God i would be furious! defo a complaint to be sent hun!! What hospital was u at?

Glad all is well now tho!! xxxx

It's Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, in Falkirk which is a brand new totally up to date hospital with robots and everything!! Shocking x

God the care you received prior to giving birth wasn't great either hun. I'd definitely put it all in a letter & demand an apology. I know neither of those things will help you or fix what happened but they can't treat people like that. It's horrendous. Poor you love. *hugs*

thats sick, if i were you i'd launch a huge complaint with them etc...force them to say sorry etc... its unwordable i dont care that its not a word, but its sick I feel so sorry for you x x x *hugs* x x x

Massive congrats on ur baby boy!! :) but am horrified at aftercare hun...if you feel upto it i def think a complaint is in order. That is totally unacceptable xxxx

Gosh hun, well done for doing it all with zero pain relief BUT I am absolutely disgusted with your treatment.

I would suggest that when you have some time you make an official complaint, with times / dates and names of MW's if at all possible? This kind of care cannot be allowed to happen.

I'd also speak to your community MW about it as well.

Your story is thankfully very rare though!!

Lastly but most importantly congratulations on your little boy hun

xxxxxxxxx

Sorry for what you went through but well done and congratulations for your beautiful baby xxx

Oh Claire that is shocking treatment, pretty bad before but horrendous afterwards. The main thing is your little man is here safely but we pay taxes for a reason, to gain access to free healthCARE... As an NHS worker I am shocked to read that!! Maybe you don't feel up to it or want to re-live it but if you can complain please do!!
Spencer is gorgeous though, so teeny!! Xxx

That's horrendous treatment I am shocked for you. Congratulations on te arrival of spencer - well done! Xx

I just read your story, the aftercare was disgraceful! Definitely complain and threaten to go to the press if they don't apologise to you. I find that works a treat!
I'm glad you're well lovey and so is your gorgeous little baby!!xxx

Thanks everyone! I was so worried I was just being a drama queen but I'm glad others agree my mum was livid too but I was too tired to fight as you can imagine lol x

 OMG

That's horrific, your treatment was shocking from the start, as everyone else has said you really should put in an official complaint.

I read it out to my husband and he said it's like someone had asked you to write a story about what would be a horror birth.

Poor you.xx

Congrats on the birth of Spencer.

That treatment is shocking. You need to put in a formal complaint. That's disgusting.

Tapatalking :-D Can't see tickers...

Thanks girls daddy is going to look after little man while I sit and write out the letter and also gonna write out a full separate time line cause themmidwife recommended it x

Congrats on the birth of ur little boy hun..
Sorry u had such crap aftercare! xxxx

Its disgusting that a place that should provide you with care completely lacks of it!! Glad to hear it didn't put you off giving birth again and glad to hear all is ok now :)

The names of your midwife can be found in your purple notes given for postnatal check if you dont remember them. Im shocked at how badly you where treated and it could have put you and baby at risk- not to mention the tramatic after care, your meant to be given a drink and something to eat after and they should have wrote in your notes that they provided you with it. I was given a pot of tea and a pile of toast when i had mine! Aswell as the water they provided during labour. Complain in writing they take it seriously i got a phone call to appologise when i complained about a doctor. x

Thanks lovely! I've not got anymore notes as I've been discharged but I will be writing the full complaint and requesting all notes regarding my pregnancy, labour and aftercare.

I think I need to read my labour notes for closure too although I dunno how accurate they'll be as they were written up afterwards. And as I had zero pain relief I was pretty out of it when I was pushing cause I was exhausted so can't remember stuff

brand new to taptalking!
