The smear sticky (sounds lovely doesn't it?!)

you could arrange it at your 6 week check after Evie is born :-) they might tell you you're too young because the official age to have one is now 25- :-)

i had mine at my 6 weeks check, but i think that was only because
i didnt feel normal down below!

Add me. I've been meaning to go for one but have had messed up periods since going on this new pill which is no use for a smear. Got an appointment with GP to see about the pill so will ask if she can do it then... and it's on my birthday. JOY!!

I wil have to wait til after nipper is born I guess?

Bit concerned cos I havent had one for YEARS...meant to get round to it after James but then fell preggers again...

And not to worry anyone, but when and why this 25 thing has come in i dont know.

I had routine smears from 18 because i was sexually active - thats what i was told by my doc to do - and i did have funny cells when i was 21. It was only very mild and they went away on their own but i had to be more closely monitored for a good few years after that....

Just been looking it up, and apparently (if I've worked it out right) it's;

- If you are sexually active
- If you are over 25 (but not sexually active)
- OR once you have had your first baby

Not quite sure how that works but I'm in 2 of the 3 categories lol xx

This is going to sound like such a STUPID question, but the "if youve have kids" bit. Is that if you have just had a vaginal birth or is it pregnancy hormones etc that is the reason? :?

Can you add me, Im due to go, got the letter i but havent made the appointment.

I was sure it was once you were sexually active as wasnt there a row about nuns not getting it.

You can add me to the list i'm making an appointment for one tomorrow.

i've been invited to have mine (they make it sound like a party  ) - its due in september. i'll be booking myself in in the next couple of weeks...

TBH i'm really not that bothered any more. my bits have been poked and prodded by literally dozens of strangers now, and what with that and pooing with an audience whilst in labour, a smear doesn't really seem like a big deal now...

think this thread is a v good idea :D :D

I got a letter 2 weeks ago reminding me I'm due one so I'm making an appointment tomorrow so stick me on the list

I remember going to my docs and asking her about a smear when I was 21, she said I ahd to wait until I was 25 :? anyway about a year later I had lots of discharge (sorry  ) and went back, she did swabs and smear test and turns out I had CIN 2 :( I had treatment for that. I dread to think what could of been had I been left till I was 25! I posts a little while ago about forgetting to rebook as I am on yearly ones now, I did go in the end and got my results back last week - ALL CLEAR :cheer: Was so relieved!

Get them booked now.. is it really worth leaving?

Why are some people being told to wait till their 25?

Do they know you are sexually active and have kids?

I have been having them since I was 16. And when I was 23 had an abnormal result and was told I was less that 2 yrs away from having cancer.

Please ladies book them even if you are younger than 25

Policy in some areas has changed which means that no matter if you are sexually active they won't do a smear test until you're 25.

A lot of people have asked their doctor's surgery for one only to be told they aren't old enough!!

Sad, but true I'm afraid.

Wow that is scary about the age thing. I was always told to start having regular smear tests as soon as I became sexually active. My last one was last November so I'm ok currently :D Also my health authority always send me a letter when my next one is due, which is great because otherwise I'd never remember!

I've asked to have one twice (I asked the nurse once and the doctor once). I'm 23 but have been sexually active since 15 and obviously am pregnant with baby #2. Also my maternal grandmother and aunt have had pre-cancerous cells removed. Both times I've asked I've made them aware of this but they've said unless I have any symptoms they won't do one until I'm 25 :wall:

I'll ask again after I've had this LO but I'm expecting the same answer.
