thats what hv thinks, she saw me feedin today, and although G'S not as difficult as she is fussing, so we're gonna try gaviscon again.

also cos it was a different hv she said as a bf mum i should NEVER have been given the sachets, so we're getting liquid this time.

fingers crossed it helps.

Samira struggles with silent reflux as well, and we've given up on the Gaviscon (sachets) as it was such a struggle to get it into her and it made her so constipated. Will be interested to see how you're getting on with the liquid! We're not doing too badly atm, she's still struggling with feeding but not as badly as it was, and she is now putting on weight all right (ish), but if it gets worse again and you have a good experience with the liquid it might be worth going back to the doctors!

I gave up with the sachets, and she seems ok, but we're having difficulties again. Xxx

There is liquid?!?!?

It's such a ballache trying to mix the sachets :(

Hope you are getting on a bit better

:shock::shock::shock:

Didn't know there was a liquid!!

I've read of alot of BF mums online who have struggled to use it!

Let us know how you get on with the liquid. I have a friend who's struggling & I can let her know if you get it.

Oh and sorry to hear reflux is back, its a nasty nasty thing, leads you into a false sense of security, gaviscon worked 3 days with us & every med we get works for a week then stops...very annoying.

I've made a reflux thread btw, where we can all share tips & advice if your interested

sorry to reiterate but there's a liquid form?

i FF but give the sachets mixed up the BF way cos it works better , Did she say why you should NEVER have been given them? was it just because of the hassle or is there a medical reason too?

well, i dunno how effective its going to be - especially as its seemed like the gaviscon made G worse. but basically it seems to be the same stuff you get off the shelf for adults. The does is 1-2mls after a feed - its sooo much easier to give.

The HV said the reason the dont offer it initially to babies is because it has a slightly higher salt content. but imo id rather she had a bit more salt than suffered in pain.

it was just because its designed for bottle fed babies. i dont think theres a medical reason - she just basically said its really stupid because its so difficult to administer

You can give the sachets to BF babies....here's the link to the official gaviscon instructions tells you there how to give to BF babies..

http://www.refluxadvice.co.uk/downloads/possetting_in_babies_treatment_algorithm.pdf

Didnt work for my LO, dont worry there is other meds you can give

Good luck

Breast-fed infants: Under 10 lb (4.5
kg), one dose. Over 10 lb (4.5 kg), two doses. Add one teaspoon (5 ml) of cooled, boiled water to the powder in a glass, mix
to a smooth paste, add two more teaspoons of the water and mix. Give after each feed using a spoon or feeding bottle.

you can, think its just the fsct that your not supposed to mix them in advance, and unless you give it in a bottle - which some bf mums dont like doing in case of confusion - you have to give 3 syringes worth. its not that you CANT give the sachets to bf babies - its just that it tends to be rather stressful.

Ooooh, I must have missed that sorry.

I have taken to cup feeding the Gaviscon mixed with a bit of breast milk (she won't lap it up if there's no milk there)

It's not 100% effective but better than using the syringe because that was an epic fail.

I am actually considering formula feeding because I cant deal with administering the meds and failing and then expressing on top of that.

Go ask for it in liquid form. Its sooo much easier! honestly. seems a shame to have give up bf when there's an alternative med you could use. xxx

Ah right, I get what you mean, I thot you said the HV said not to give sachets. Glad you got the liquid, hope you see an improvement
