Title: A child called IT

Genre: Biography

Review:

This is a touching story of a little boy who was badly abused by his alcoholic mother. He became the target of her anger. Exciled to the basement, to live on an army cot. His brothers picked on him, in the hope of staying in there mothers good books. He only ate when she let him, and his brothers would often try to set him up. The things he encountered are monsterous. Many of time the events brought a tear to my eye. His father powerless to save him, he was on his own. It is a story of courage and survival. He is nearly left for dead a number of times.

With the help from concerned school teachers, he manages to start a new life, but all is not as rosey as it seems, the scars are still very raw.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was one of the few books i couldnt put down.

Would reccomend this to anyone, and will deffinately read it again in the future.

ive read this, really shocked by the abuse he went through, cant imagine how any mother would do that to a child very sad but a good read.

soory didnt read the whole thread i cant get into yahoo as i have forgotton my account details, i dont really want to open a new account as i dont use it :(

ok hun. not to worry. if you would still like to contribute, you could just add your reviews here :) as i only set that up, incase people wanted to use it.

if not then people can still post in here :D

I LOVE reading! Takes me a while longer to get through books now I have Libby, but its such a great relaxer!

I have read A Child called It (& the other 2) how he made it out the other side is beyond beleif, considering what she did to him mentally & physically  a good read through as it tells a good story of his strength of character.

I also loved The Lovely Bones.....a gorgeous book to read! If you liked that then I would also recommend a book called - The 5 people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom (sp) i read that one in 24 hours as I couldn't ut it down.

I'll happily reveiw a few, but I'm crap at deciding what 'genre' is there an easy way, the thriller/chick flick is easy enough, its just the kind of middle road ones

Title: The Time Traveler's Wife

Genre: Love Story (but not too chick lit)

Review:
A gorgeous book about a time traveller (not sci fi) who meets his wife when she's 6 and he's 37, however he is actually only 8 years older. He travels through time and meets her in different stages of his life, when he is different ages. So when she is 6 in 'real time' he is 14, but he travels ahead to when he is 37 (& she is still 6) and meets her for the first time - he cannot control the time travel btw. The book explores many different relationships (parents/ friends/ loved ones etc) and is an absolutely wonderful read, you need to concentrate on it a bit, but is well worth it. I will read it all over again one day.....would swap it but I can't remember who I lent it to last  [/b]

thank you for taking the time to write the review :D

it sounds like an intersting book. and ill take the name and title down of it and keep my eyes open at the library.

the other 2 you mentioned sound good too.

should i do a poll of wether people would prefer to use this thread as the book club, or the yahoo, as it seems some people dont use yahoo. where as everyone used this site :)

Title: Here be monsters (Buffy the vampire slayer)

Genre: sci-fi/TV

Review:

This book starts out with your not so typical damsel in distress
running for her life. Her name is Heidi Lindstrom, a troubled teen who
ran into the wrong people at the Bronze. As you read on, you find
yourself asking when buffy is going to jump in and save the day.

Life seems to be going well for Buffy Summers. Demon activity appears
to be low and things at home are good until a 'hardnut' from school
stalks her at the mall. Suz Tompkins is asking for her help. Some of
her friends have disapeared, and she fears the worst for them. is Suz
next?

From reading this book you will find out what happens when the slayer
messes with a Vampire Family Tree.

Id give this book about 6/10. It isnt the best book in the series, but
a good read for any buffy fan.

Sorry guys, i collect these books (am i sad lol)

Title We Need to talk about Kevin

Genre: A Novel

Review
This book is fictionally written by a mother whose son kills some students, a teacher & a cafeteria worker in a school shooting in USA. The story is told through letters that she is writing to her husband, and starts from Kevins birth, right through to his 18th birthday (he was a few days short of being 16 at the time of the shooting). The story is about how difficult she find him as a son, and that she feels that his main purpose in life is to be awkward, and calculatingly wicked, and asks the question why?
I found it quite hard going at the start, and struggled to get into it, but it picked up and by the last quarter of the book I didn't want to put it down as I was riveted.
People thought I was stupid to read it whilst pregnant as its about the anxieties of being a parent, so I'll put that warning on too. i found it easy enough to remain detached from that part - but though it worth a mention
:) [/b]

Hi Keslo,

Personally I'd find it easier to coming back on here, but thats just me......maybe do a poll? I think it'd make a great sticky :D

I'll see if my best friend has The Time Travellers Wife, and if she does (& has finished it & not passed it on) I'll let you know - I'm happy to forward it on if I can locate it :D

Will def join and will give book reviews on books have recently read when I have more time.

I have read time travellers wife (loved it) and a child called it ( )
Currently reading the tenth circle (about girl who was raped by her popular boyfriend - very american) - and about to read Wicked by Jilly Cooper - my kind of light reading.

Would thoroughly recommend - Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman a childs book but fantastic!
