What do you girls think about telling your manager about being pregnant early on?

Just been to the docs. I've got an asthma check up on 9th June and my booking in appointment with midwife on the 6th June :D

Both appointments are during work time - one at lunch and one just at 5 - so would need some extra time.

Just leaving for work now.

I've informally told my manager. But he and I get on really well, so I had no problem telling him. He's been totally great about it. He loves babies so is really clucky about it. We've already talked about whether we need to change anything to do with my job at all, and what we can do to minimise stress etc. He's even making sure that if I have to take my laptop to meetings in London that I take a wheely case so I'm not carrying too much weight.

But even if we didn't get on so well I would have told him anyway, because like you say, you're going to be having more doctors appointments, and if you start feeling ill with morning sickness etc, at least your manager knows what's going on.

Like I said, I've told my manager informally now, so no one else knows and it's not officially on any of the work computer systems, it's just so he know's what's going on just in case. He's agreed not to tell anyone till I make an official announcement after I've had the 12 week scan and I know everything is OK.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do x

Thanks Toni. Think I will :)

What you've said makes sense :)

i was thinking the same thing.. but my manager is a complete a.hole..
she cant keep anything to herself and is SO unprofesional!!
so she'll be the last to know i supose!! :wall: x

well...i told my boss and she went all weird on me.....even weirder when i lost it....felt like i was a complete inconvenience to the company and then dared to mess the 'plans' up again cos i wont be leaving now in sept...

we have already decided this time we wont tell anyone till after 12 weeks scan....but i may not even tell work till i legally have to....the atmosphere last time was pants! not fair really eh....

i suppose it depends if your job puts any stress on you and baby....like if you have to lift etc....i dont, so i should be okay xxx

Hey hun, i told my manager a few weeks ago - i thought it was best rather than make excuses for docs appointments and just in case i started feeling ill at work. Made it clear though that only those that had to know, where to know.

Also i work on the 25th floor of the building and need to have a personal evaction plan in case of any fire drills etc - basically we have these special re-enforced lifts that you can use when your pregnant or bad back etc, instead of have to climb down 25 flights of stairs!! Figured we must be due a drill soon, so whatever i can do to get out of that!!

Thanks girls. I told him. Just my line manager, not our boss boss lol. He said he knew  because I've been looking awful!! He was cool about it. I'm glad I told him :)

Thats good, although he's not great at dishing out compliments is he?? He could have said he knew because you had the "pregnancy glow" lol

I'm telling my manager today as i work as a cleaner using buffing machine and loads of chemicals so i have to know what safe for me to do during work. I think if i wasn't at risk while working then i probably wouldn't have meant it to anyone til at least 12 weeks. the only down side is my aunty works in the offices where i work too, so i had to tell her so that no one works coincidently tells her!! so i'm sure far too many people will know soon, as my family love to gossip!! :S
