I must admit we have become a bit too used to the bouncer during the day for getting samuel off to sleep.

He sleeps really well in his cot during the night but resists it in the day, but it has come to the point where we are having to try to teach him new tricks!

We tried a 15 minute controlled crying session this morning but it didn't work, but when we put him in his bouncer he went off straight away!

Have you lot faced this? what do you recommend and how long will it take us to teach him?

Thanks

Why do you want him to sleep in his cot during the day? Why not let him sleep in his bouncer? Sorry, not being funny just wondering :D

I was wondering the same as Kim (not being funny either!! :D)

If it was Damo I'd just let him go in the bouncer if he is happy.
Damien will never be the perfect child, so if he gets some say in some things, I get a say in other stuff.

I let Rebecca sleep in her bouncer during the day, and restrict sleeping in the cot for at night so she knows that it's bedtime and she has to sleep for the night.

Rebecca only has sporadic 10min naps during the day, she constantly needs stimulated and attention, if not there is hell on earth, so it wouldn't be worth my while taking her all the way upstairs to her cot for 10mins.

My little Princess is 11 weeks today. How time flies! x

Sarah,

Maheen is exactly the same!!!!
She loves being in her bouncer and hates being in her cot during the day.
Just like you, I wanted to break the habit, so I tried to take her in her cot durinmg 20 minutes everyday while I would be tidying her clothes, etc... but it didn't lead anywhere!!! :(

She would cry on and off, leep for 2 minutes and then wake up again!

The thing is we swaddle her at night, because she moves her arms and legs too much and can't sleep otherwise, but I don't want to do that during the day!
so...we have decided that we will let her sleep in her bouncer when she really needs to sleep and I need to do stuff in the house, and otherwise, she is flat on her blanket and...shall I say it...watches TV!!!!!!!!!!! she loves it and comments on everything she sees! the best so far is football :)
she won't sleep anywhere else than her bouncer,a nd we can't do much about it!

Sami, Kim, Bouncers aren't that good for their back! They should be flat, as much as possible.
K X, same thing really!

anyone else has the same experience?

I'm sure they wouldn't sell the bonucers if they weren't good for them :?

I let Rubie sleep where and when she likes, I haven't a clue when she will fall asleep so it would be impossible to take her up and put her in her moses basket for a nap. The only 'routine' we have is that she goes to bed at 8pm each night. I don't see the point of any more of a routine as I never know what I will be doing and it makes the days a bit less boring for her.

Rubie is a very settled and calm baby (most of the time!) so I don't really worry about it :D

i can see sarahs point - as bouncers only go up to a certain weight.... then what happens??

I've just had this with Ewan up till he was 5 months he used to fall asleep on the floor but i started to introduce him to the cot - as some one said how would you like to have your bedroom in the front room every time you wanted a nap! good point.
he hated going in his cot at first, so i tried to read his cues and as soon as he starts rubbing his eyes i take him upstairs put his music on, and usually he is asleep before i have left the room. so i should get better, he'll sleep in it during the night won't he so try to see what you do thats different during the dy - ie.e is it too bright try shutting the curtains?

hope this helps

Like Kim, I have no routine in the day maybe except for feeding, only that Kai has his last feed at 10 and then is asleep until 6.30-7 the next day.

When Kai sleeps in the day, it's mainly in his highchair or if we go out, he sleeps in his pushchair and I leave him in there when we get back as I will just wake him up. I have tried him in his cot, it just doesn't work in the day, and to be honest at this point I let him sleep wherever he wants, as longs as he sleeps I don't care. And he doesn't like lieing flat in the day, he like to be sitting up in a reclining position so he sees things. For instance he doesn't like his gym much now, try putting him in and he cries.

rubie is the opposite, she used to love her chair, now she much prefers her gym :D

Seren sleeps whereever she wants as well during the day. She will not sleep in her cot and especially not her crib so she either sleeps in my bed, or in her bouncer. In regards to having a bedroom in the living room I find it easier for there to be a lot of noise. She sleeps better when there is noise during the day but better in quiet at night, which I prefer as it means I can just get on with my thing. I don't have a daytime routine either as like Kim I do different stuff everyday and would personally find it too restrictive.

Hearts81 provided a link to a bouncer that goes up to quite a big weight didn't she?

my advice keep trying even if you have to rock him off to a light sleep then put him down i've been doing it with matthew for a week or so now and its working i dont ever rock him at night,

This also might sound daft but in the day he naps facing the door at night he lays the opposite way i thought that might help him understand day and night time are different not sure if it makes any difference but i will keep doing it anyway!

Jess was about 1 before she started napping in her cot. Before that I was happy for her to sleep on the couch for a nap. Even now when she goes through to her bed for a midday nap I tell her its just a nap and dont put her in her gro bag, just to reinforce that its not night time.

Hiya i've had exactly the same problem with Reece. He's never slept in his cot through the day. The only thing he'd sleep in was his bouncer. When he got too big for it i had to run out and buy a bigger one cos he wouldn't settle at all!!! The rocker chair i've got now is http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st= ... selcat=bgb it's for babies up to 40lb.

Now though, as well as his chair he likes to sleep in his buggy. I just recline it , lay him in it and he get comfy and has a snooze. He still refuses to sleep in his cot during the day though :?

Hmmm, we probably did a too good job teaching our LO the difference between day and night!!!
That's a really nice chair, no wonder Reece loves it! :D

take care,
Mel xx

Its the reason thet Hypnorm mentioned. The bouncer only really goes up to a certain age and weight. i think that babies hate bouncers when they are able to crawl about as they hate being restricted?????

I then have to face the trauma of teaching sam to sleep in his cot when he gets to seven or eight months old, which will probably be even harder than doing it now. :wall:

I shouldn't complain though, because at the moment I have really cracked getting him off to sleep.

I am just worried about a few months time. Babies need to sleep in the day when they are 18 months as well and he certainly can't go in his bouncer then ??

Hi Sarah,

I agree bouncers are only good up to a certain stage and you will have to go to a cot during the day eventually so the earlier you feel like trying it the better, then it will be a distant memory for them.

I started trying with Dom the same stage you are at and after a few days it worked and now he always naps in his cot during the day.

The bouncer and car seat thing is the same as Hypnorm suggested, not sure of the time - will look it up, but they should be taken out and moved around after a certain time period as it's not too good if they are left in them for yonks a yonks...it won't kill them of course as they wouldn't sell them but it's not good to keep using them in them for hours etc etc blah blah ;)

You go for it girl, Samuel will get used to it eventually they all do ;)

I tried putting Rubie in her moses basket when she fell asleep today but she was hyserical when she woke up and realised she was upstairs alone. I wont be doing that again

I put matthew in his cot today as he was so tired he had a tantrum but then wore himself out so when I went up to him and gave him a cuddle he fell asleep straight away, then slept for 2hours!! Perservering does help

You might be surprised, it might not be a trauma and with him being older and probably down to one nap a day he will probably sleep in his ot. Like I said with Jess, she sleeps in her cot for a nap since age 1 but in the past few months she toddles through when I say its time for a nap.

It all works itself out.

hi

Liam only catnaps during the day and is only marginally better during the night.

I have heard that it isnt correct to leave your baby in any thing that bends their spine, like a car seat, for more than 2 hours at a time, so i suppose that goes the same for a bouncer. babies spines should be straight for as much as possible. thats why we bought the Jane Matrix cae seat asit lies totally flat.
