Hi all,

I am trying to choose a swaddle blanket, but there are so many types available, and now I'm confused!

For those who have swaddled previously, would you have any recommendations? Velcro or no velcro? Specially shaped, with a pocket to put the feet in, or just a basic square one?

Any tips would be very much appreciated!

I don't have a baby yet but I plan to swaddle using Big Muzz muslins as they are really big but should avoid overheating.

I wouldnt spend a fortune on a swaddle blanket as your baby might not like to be swaddled as some babies dont. Maybe get normal blankets and try him/her with those and if baby likes it then think about buying a proper swaddle blanket :)

I bought about 3 different 'fancy' swaddling blankets - but a plain old cellular blanket was much better!

Hi, I would also like to swaddle if the baby takes to it but as my LO is due in early August I'm concerned about overheating. Does anyone have any suggestions for what material to use if it's hot. Also, how do you know when they are too hot (sorry really dumb question I know).

I'd never heard of swaddling until the 2nd night I was in hospital. Ella was screaming and nothing I was doing would settle her..so the Midwife showed me how to swaddle her and 10 seconds later she was asleep! It was just a plain cellular hospital blanket (which I took home on the sly.. ) You don't need fancy ones in my opinion, just as long as it's a proper swaddling blanket.

You don't need a 'swaddling' blanket - that's just a marketing ploy to make us spend more money. I used his shawl mostly, but you can use cellular or any types of blanket x

I wouldnt go out and spend extra money on a blanket just because its branded as a "swaddling blanket". If you wrap them up all snug in almost anything, and they like being swaddled, they wont care if its a plastic sheet!

I think my favourite blanket for my son is his massive blue fleece blanket from ikea. But that may be because i could soooo see myself falling fast asleep if someone cuddled me in it!! :rotfl:

get a miracle blanket second hand from ebay if you prefer but get one - saved my sanity seriously! it ghas xtra flaps so babb houdini impresions ae prevented! watch the video here .. www.miracleblanket.com

(and no I don'y get comision - they are just really good. we have 2 cos can't cope if it is in the wash!)

I didn't even know you could get special blankets for swaddling.... :rotfl:

Both mine have cellular blankets, fleece, sheets, whatever!! Depends on how warm it is and which ones are in the wash.

My babies have had no preference, as long as they are wrapped up tight, they sleep.

i swaddled nathan right from the start but now hes nearlly 9 months he still wont sleep unless hes wrapped up, its getting a bit much now cos as soon as he becomes loose he wakes up but its getting hard finding ones big enough for him, ill be having to wrap him in a king size bed sheet soon! :rotfl:

i didnt know you could get 'swaddle blankets'
i just used normal ones. That obviously got bigger and bigger as Hannah did. (in the end i was actually using a 'throw' around her'
we've only recently stopped (as shes got way to big now)
Im going to be using the same technique with the new bab.

tbh babies have been swaddled for centuries with no "special" swaddling blankets. Try an ordinary blanket first.. if bubs like it then consider buying an expensive one. Tia loved to be swaddled but lil miss is less keen (doesn't even like being strapped into the car seat or pushchair).

So be wary about spending a fortune on something you might never use. :D
