Is anyone taking any supplements to prepare your body for TTC? We are trying in another 6 months and was wondering if it was worth while taking any, and if so what? X

Hi, before ttc mine I took folic acid. According to my GP it's better to have the FA in your system when you fall pregnant rather than start taking it after you realise you're pregnant. Pregnacare Conception vits contain Folic Acid and lots of other vitamins which might help with conception. I took that when ttc my son, but only FA when ttc my daughter.
Good luck! xx

Thank you that's very helpful :) x

You can get higher doses of folic acid on prescription if it's natural occurrence in your blood is quite low, like mine. The over-the-counter tablets can be expensive and the dosages in them are so low there's almost no point taking them! That's what I was told. I initially started with the supplements because of chronic fatigue which started to go away when I ate more green vegetables. Far cheaper and better! Anyway - check your folic acid in your blood levels and see if you can get higher doses prescribed.

I take 5mg folic acid due to bowel problems. Other health conditions as well as raised BMI recommend the higher dose as standard but yes is on prescription which kinda sucks. I also take 3000IU Vitamin D daily supplement and this is also a recommendation for all pregnant women and so wouldn't hurt starting that now, especially for those living in climates where the sun's strength is lower and overall exposure throughout the year isn't great.

I've just been given a prescription for 3 months' worth of Folic Acid. I'm on a pre-payment scheme with the NHS as I take a lot of other medication. You can apply for one online and set up a direct debit. If the GP finds you'll need some supplements to help with preconception then it could be worth applying for the PPC, and they'll often give you 3 months worth as well.

Folic Acid is one of the MUSTS in preconception and early stages of pregnancy as it helps against spina bifida and other neural developments.

I've heard a lot of good things about FertilAid, so I've ordered it along with OvaBoost and FertileCM. I've been on BC a very long time and given that I am over 30 I decided I might as well give it a go. I will add some calcium supplements though. Hopefully my body will be in good shape when we start trying December.
