ok, i used to tan on average twice or 3times a week..

I have NOT been on the sunbeds since finding out i was pregnant, i have used st tropez..

BUT my skin is SOO bad, and the sunbeds normally would be my life saver in this situation, i've been doing alot of research, and apparently, the UV rase does not go deeper than first few layers of skin, and therefor it is impossible to harm your baby!!

Only thing you have to do, it not get too hot!! And obveously your skin is more sensitive whilst pregnant.

Has anyone used the sunbeds on here?
I'm not thinking every day or even week, maybe twice a month just to help skin, and make me feel slightly less pale..
but i do not want to hurt my baby, so i'm kinda swaying away from idea? xx

i dont think your supposed to use them at all during pregnancy hun

just found this on nhs website
If you really want to have a tan while you are pregnant, it is much safer to use fake tan than a sunbed. However, fake tanning when pregnant still isn't recommended and you should always test the product on a small patch of skin first in case you have an allergic reaction.
hope it helps

what about moisturiser with fake tan in it? like that holiday skin stuff?

its more to help my spots than tan, tanning isnt a major issue, as i'm happy with st tropez (its safe as far as i've read)

Its just ache, only because i'm preg, and cant think of anythin else.. i was thinkin of jus buying facial tanner lol xx

oo i'm worried now :? Ive been on a couple of times to try and sort the sudden zit problem :( ..........my friend asked her doctor when she was pregnant and he told her it was fine to go on but as she got bigger to cover with a towel or something as may feel a bit hot???......got my booking in appointment with the midwife on friday so will see what she has to say???

I wont use a sunbed at all even when Im not pregnant lol
I did once or twice a few years back to help with my spots on my face! But after looking about me at the girl who were my age, coming in and out looking like leather, I swore I would never use them! I would rather have spots then look older that my age!!
Will face washes and creams not help at all?
My skin has gone really dry as well as the odd more pimple and I have been using this apricot scrub thing lol (cant think who makes it I will have to check?)
Works for me for the moment! I hope you find something other than that which will make you look 10 years older!!

Hiya,

I would never use a sunbed. My best friends mum died of skin cancer so would never even consider it now (i used to use it occasionally a few years back). I also wouldnt risk it atall whilst pregnant but im no doctor so not sure about the actual risks.

I use tinted moisturiser... much safer option!

I used to own a double sunbed when i lived in the UK and went on it most nights so when i was pregnant with my first i was gutted when my GP told me that I should NOT use sunbeds while being pregnant. He did explain at the time the reason but it was a long time ago now and cant remember. They can harm the baby though, something to do with the UV rays penetrating i think  Thankfully i live in Spain now so tanning wouldnt be a problem this time round... i just have to actually GET preganant... Hope this helps x

 im not sure about this one  are the uv rays not the same as the sun

i used sunbeds before my bfp, but havent been on one since i have been slightly tempted to go on one but i wont unless a dr can tell me that there is no risks which i dont think they will, i dont think the sunbed shop would let someone in who was pregnant.

the weather seems to be picking up anyway and you will have natural uv.

Ola! Hope you're ok :D

Anyway... This is probably different but I had FINALLY got my letter through the door confirming my UVA treatment at the hospital (after waiting for over a year!) because I have psoriasis and sunlight and sunbeds help it... But they turned me down because of pregnancy and told me it wasn't safe to use. I would have thought it would be the same for sunbeds?!

To be honest though hun, my psoriasis has gotten a lot better since being pregnant, I think my hormones have evened out a bit and they seem to be helping now! Maybe yours will too?

I personally wouldn't do it, but that's just me.

Maybe you could go to your docs and have a chat about it? They might be able to suggest something else as treatment for your spots?

I was given a brill moisturiser which is safe to use during pregnancy and it's great! Works a treat :D xx

St Ives?

mmmm, <3 the smell of apricot, anything fruity really lol.

For spots, just use a spot friendly cleanser in the day like Clearasil, then at night when you don't go out, slap on loads of Sudocrem, its antibacterial so will help clear up acne, and its a barrier cream so won't let germs in.
Also, if you wear foundation, a mineral foundation is much better for your skin than the traditional ones.

I think sunbeds are a HUGE no-no when you're preggo hun :? especially to treat acne....have you discussed it with your GP? I think sunbeds use the wrong type of bulbs to treat skin conditions? You'd need to go to a specialist or dematologist to find the correct UVA treatment.

The best thing is the Sun, in a few weeks we should have some of that so Id stick to self tan if you want to look brown and for spots get out in the sunshine :)

Ask your doc about a facial UV tanner, doesnt go anywhere near bump and could just put it in front of problem areas?
They sell them in Argos.

I used to love using sunbeds before I fell pregnant, they're so relaxing...BUT I'd say don't even risk it whilst pregnant.

My skin was really bad during 1st tri so I started rubbing BIO OIL & coco butter on my face and it worked wonders, so I'd suggest to you fake tan & bio oil! Atleast then u stay younger & fresher looking & u know for certain your babys fine!

xxx

I read that vinegar on cotton wool wiped over your face really helps with oily skin in pregnancy I haven't tried it yet cause didn't know about it when skin was worst in first tri but definately will next time I get a break out, just remember to wash it off well after so you don't stink of it!

TBH i thought it was hormones that caused acne during pregnancy, and theres nothing you can do about it. I try and dry them out a bit with a dab of tea tree, but have just invested in a better concealer.

Its all part of accepting your changing body, and that there will be lots of things that you can no longer do.

I've never understood sunbed users anyway, it always looks fake to me. If you're really bothered use a fake tan. Tho i suspect when you get further on you'll not be bothered with that either as its all too much hassel and resign yourself to being pale and interesting!

It's not a case of not being bothered... I can't reach half my body!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Sunbeds are bad for you full stop so they are not going to be recommended during pregnancy! Like alcohol it's an obvious answer- if it's not good for you when you're not pregnant... it's not going to be good for you or baby during pregnancy! :wall:

Also, I was watching Lorraine Kelly this morning lol and a girl came on and she was saying savlon is great for blemishes and all sort! So I think I might give that a try!

i knew they wouldnt be recommended, but i just wondered if there was a risk to your baby? as i'd never do anythin to risk my bubs.. i spoke to the doctor, and the UV rase does not go near the baby, and only goes skin deep, not to your own organs, or anywhere near baby, but they say to be safe, do not use them, as there not 100% certain or risks involved. But that was my Drs response, he said, like anything, things in small doses arnt going to harm you. but better to be safe than sorry.

I've decided to just carry on, as a few spots wont hurt me, but i def dont want to hurt my lil baby xx
