Ok hope this helps somebody. My 1st born Joshua was born by emergency section because he went into distress, when he came into the world my world turned into a nightmare not because of him as such but my life just took a turn for the worse for the next 7 years. He was born by section and was taken into scbu as he was low on sugar or something like that and had a low birth weight of 4lb 5oz. I suffered very bad pnd which nobody listened to me about and in the end it got so severe we lost him to social services but thats another story. I've then gone on to have 3 other children born fairly naturally, my 2nd was a vbac with assistance using forceps, my 3rd was assisted delivery again with vontoise and then my final baby harleigh was born again by vontoise delivery. Although these were assisted deliveries I would opt for them again over a section baby.

Me too  good luck to your friend Urchin

Id be interested in this thread also after having a section with Maia.

Come on girls there must be more than one out there, Im sure Paradyso had a natural birth after a section.

Urchin if we get a good few stories could we make this a sticky please?

My first was born via c section after failure to progress past 4cm he was 14 days late when he was born and weighed in at 8lb 8.5oz. My little girl was also late and I was adament that I wanted to try for a VBAC. My consultants were all brilliant and really pushed for it which made me feel more positive! In the end I went into hospital at 11 days overdue to be induced. I was given prostin and told to wait. After a few hours I started to feel mild pains so they wouldn't give me anymore and hoped my cervix was opening enough so they could break my waters. I went through the night having contractions and was given a really good sweep. I was losing so much blood and gunk after that.

Was examined early morning after a blip on the monitor (baby moved away and lost heartbeat) and they said I was good to go for my waters to be broken. Got to delivery and they popped my waters. Contractions started not too long after and were a lot more intense. My waters gushed with each contraction which felt really weird! I was examined and was 4cm the dreaded number I had got stuck at last time! Was on gas and air and opted for diamorphine which slowed the contractions down again so went for the drip. After a couple of hours of strong contractions I was still at 4cm and I was really upset thinking that was it. My consultant was called and said he had a slot for theatre at that minute or I could wait two hours and see how it went because contractions were going good and baby was really well. I went for the two extra hours and prayed something had happened. M/w decided to examine me after an hour and a half and looked at me really shocked! I thought she was gonna say that it would be a c section but she said "You're 8cm, no make that 8-9cm!" I was gob smacked as was my husband  I even said "You're joking right?"

A few minutes after that examination I felt the hugest urge to push. The m/w said not too because if I did too soon the cervix would swell and I'd end up having to wait for it to go down before I could push. I really couldn't stop the urge and with each contraction I was grunting trying to stop my body from pushing. I yelled that I really needed to push now and she examined me again and said go for it. What a relief to hear those words! 17 mins of pushing and my baby girl come into the world with her hand by her face (which tore me internally) and a great set of lungs! She weighed in at 7lb 13oz and was perfect! In all from my waters breaking to placenta being delivered it was just under 9 hours.

It was the most amazing experience of my life, knowing I'd done it all just made me the happiest mummy in the world. After all the doubt from so many midwives I felt great knowing I had done it! It was so nice to be able to have a bath and pick my daughter up when she cried for me! It was weird being released the next day too because I had packed for at least 3 days  Sorry it's a bit long but that is my induced VBAC story :D

hopefully i'll be able to add me own successful vbac story to this thread in a few weeks time but til then it would be great to read some more vbac stories :) strangeness i so happy you got to do it honey xxx and bowmanzoo  respect to you lady xxx

I had an emergency c section with jess as they found she was breech, she was 4 days day my due date, with Rebecca I was under consultant care and I wanted a viginal birth, so they booked a scan for me at 38 weeks to see if it could be done anyway the scan was on monday, on the friday before that my waters broke, we went down their at 3 or 4 am did the normal checks that they do and at 7.45 I had a viginal birth with rebecca with only gas and air. For me it just happened like any normal birth.

Im under consultant care this time, and have to go back to see them on new years eve, ill be 36 weeks then, its just to see weather I have to stay on the labour ward as I would like to go the birthing unit this time, (its recently opened since rebecca). I want another viginal birth this time as when i had the c- section with jess I had to be put to sleep as it was too late for an epidural, and I didnt really have a labour. As a result I got really bad pnd. Im so glad I had a viginal birth as I felt like I had missed out the first time.

hi there, I am new here (just found out expecting my fourth - big shock!!)

I had an emergency section with my second - a horrible experience and was determined to have a VBAC for the third. There is only 18 months between them, when I went to the hospital for teh first visit they wanted to book for an elective section, I refused. Each time I had another visit they trued to book one, I still refused. They said t wasmy choice butthey would prefer an elective. I was told that if I didnt go into labour naturally then they would only try once to induce before sectioning. Kept sayin gthat scar might rupture etc to convince me to opt for elective. I held out though, went into labour naturally, the minute I arrived in the hospital I had one of those needles put in my hand "just in case" and they had me srtapped up to machinery all the time and kept askin gme if my scar felt tight. Well my third born naturally with gas and air and one jag for pain relief, scar was fine and recovery after was so much quicker , so even though it was easier for the hospital to just book an elective, I didnt want it and went on to have a VBAC 18 months after a section, so if you want a VBAC dont let a hospital try to bully you into it like they tried to do to me, unless there is good reason for it, hope that helps, cheers

I had a section with Alana, due to failed induction at 42 weeks, she was back to back and pretty much not budging. After they said it was due to the size of my pelvis.

I thought I would have to have another section, but didnt want one due to the time it takes to heal and with having a 2 year old to lift up, i wanted to be fitted quicker.

with Harriet (although i had a few sweeps) came after my waters broke at 39 weeks by natural delievery. (i was booked in for a section at 41 weeks but did not want one)

Labour was about 5 hours, and only gas and air, and back home about 6 hours after, I would highly recomend trying a VBAC. I knoew there was a risk of things not working, i was pre prepped for surgery, canula in my hand etc. but luckily it all went smoothly and with alot of encouragement from my man i did it, and it was the best feeling ever, i would love to give birth a million times more, nothing can beat the feeling... counting down the days until we TTC next year :D

Thanks guys, my firend is booked in for a section in about 2 weeks so I'm hoping that she'll start on her own before then :)

My mom had a section with my older bro and she had me VBAC successfully and that was hmm 25 years ago

Kath and Paradysso   thankyou so much for sharing your experiences of vbacs - can't tell you how brilliant it is to read of ladies that have done it! Kath i relate so much to what you have said about obstetric paranoia. At every step of my pregnancy i have insisted on trying for Vbac and the midwives at the birthing centre in the town where we live, although initially hesitant, have been amazingly supportive and are all 100% behind me vbacing in the unit :D They asked me to see the consultant at the hospital and booked me to see the consultant they consider most supportive of empowering birthing options.. in all honesty i'm glad we saw him cos he was a nightmare so god knows what the others would have been like  He tried to scare me with statistics of uterine rupture and having to be transferred in an ambulance, into having a constantly monitored vbac at the big hospital, which i have declined on the grounds that it is simply for reasons of precaution that i consider to be over-reactive and what i consider best for me is a nice chilled out non-intrusive environment in the town where i live not 15 miles away, to make this vbac a reality!

I would say to any mum's wanting to vbac - do your reading!

Books I'd recommend in particular are Ina May Gaskin Spiritual Midwifery and Ina May Gaskin Guide to Childbirth. Reading these two books armed me with ALL the information i needed to be able to put my case across to the consultant in a reasoned and well-informed manner. Our health authority will not use synthetic induction drugs on a vbac mum! Synthetic induction drugs are the prime cause of uterine rupture in vbac mums and the reason why a consultant would want to constantly monitor you through a vbac. There is no need to constantly monitor a vbac mum just cos she's a vbac mum (there may be other reasons cos of other conditions however). You would be well within your right to decline use of such drugs but be prepared to pay for your own reflexology/acupuncture/homeopathy to get things going if needs be...
Do your research. Do your reading and arm yourself with the Facts! Don't be bullied because of Obstetric paranoia and be armed and ready to stand your ground and fight your corner!

be back soon with my own positive vbac story - i AM going to do this!!! :D

good luck fly!

My friend's due date is the 31st but because they won't let her go overdue she has a section booked on the 29th.
We're all hoping she starts naturally before then.
I guess your due date is around then too?
