I'm just over 5 weeks pregnant and I've been getting cramps/stomach pains since day 1. I've looked it up and it says it normal. These pains are daily and come and go. They're like I'm due AF but they aren't that mild which is why I'm worried. I used to have awful period pains, so not sure if it's connected. This is my first so I'm concerned. Is the pain normal or should I be concerned?? Any help or advise would be great xx

It sounds really normal. It's stretching pains usually, as everything is adjusting and moving about to make room for baby and your uterus is changing and expanding. It can really hurt to sneeze or cough sometimes!!
Obviously if you;re too concerned or they get worse then speak to your mw, sounds normal though so don't worry. xxx

Thanks for replying, I was just worried as it does hurt. It's not excruciating pain but not exactly mild. I haven't seen or spoken to M/W yet as the receptionist told me to wait till 8 weeks before booking an appointment xx

Iv not experienced to many streaching pains and i'm 12 weeks but at 5/6 weeks I had awful pains was so intense. Turned out I released 2 eggs and only one got fertilised then the other turned into a cyst on my Overy which burst! X

Oh how awful blueclass!! Glad baby was ok?? I just can't decide wether to go to the Doctors or not, as its my first I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I'm not in agony, it's just not mild pains xx

Try not to worry. If you have the midwife's number i do think it'd be worth a phonecall, even if it's just for reassurance. I've had 'discomfort' and some cramps but wouldn't say it hurts, then again I don't really get period pains either so could be related? Xxx

I spoke to the receptionist at the doctors and she said I can't book my MW appointment till 8 weeks. Not really sure what to do or how to get to the EPU? My doctors are closed over the weekend as well. I'm sure I'm over reacting but a bit of medical reassurance would be good xx

I know! Stupid receptionists! Walk in centre would be the next option hun, or wait and see and contact first thing monday morning to either speak to or see your gp or for a contact number for the midwife. It's different in different areas but my doctor/receptionist gave me the midwife's number at 6 weeks.. If the midwife thinks it's too early to see you, that's her choice not the receptionist's xxx

I was experiencing discomfort last weekend Anne, so I contacted the out of hours emergency doctors (the phone number will be on your gp's answering machine) and after an appointment with them they referred me to the EPU. I think some reassurance would be good xx

Thanks ladies, I really appreciate your help and advice. I think I'll call the out of hours emergency doctors and see what they say xx

Hope everything is fine Anne and you get some reassurance xx

I definitely go to a drop in centre I had really bad pains too thought it was just stretching pains etc turned out I had a water infection(apparently common in pregnancy)! Better safe than sorry. Xx

Thanks ladies, I've got a appointment at the out of hours doctors at 4.30. I'm feeling worried but hopefully all will be revealed. Thanks for your help xx

Hey Anne,
I'm just over 5 weeks myself as you know and I'm getting pains too, in the day they last seconds but at night they last much longer and to me they feel like mixture of AF pains and growing pains. I hope you get some answers Hun :) xx

I have now been referred to EPU and I have an appointment Monday at 12. I'm going to have a ultra sound. He said to be aware it could be a miscarriage but he thinks I should be fine. I'm really hoping all is well and I get to see my baby!! I will be 5+ 4 so do you think they will be able to see baby? xx

Hey Kelly, mine feel similar to period pains so I feel happier knowing you have them and it's fairly normal xx

Ah good, I'm glad they referred you Anne, are you feeling a bit better? I'm sure everything will be just fine and the EPU will do everything they can to put your mind at rest, they are so thorough! I had a scan at 5+2 and very clearly saw the sac but nothing else yet, so you should definitely see something but it will probably be too early for a heartbeat. But the EPU will scan you until everything is confirmed as being fine xx

Yeah I'm feeling a lot happier now, still suffering from the pains though. Im so excited/worried for Monday, if it's all well I'm be so happy and relieved!! Thanks unicorn, you've given me a lot of advice. Was your scan internal or external? Sorry for all the questions I'm clueless xx

No problem at all Anne, I'm more than happy to help in any way I can. It was an internal scan, but be prepared they may want to do an external one first so you will need to hold your wee for about an hour beforehand. I'm sure your little bub is just getting snug and you'll be very relieved on Monday xx
