Hi,

I am 10+2 with my 2nd child. I was surprised to fall pregnant as quickly as I did as had only been off pill for 2 months. Was nice as didn't even suspect pregnancy until well after i missed my period...

My question is about the pain I have. I know from before that you get all sorts of niggles and cramps and twinges especially at the start but I have had a niggle in the same place ever since about 4-5 weeks. I thought it might be where baby implanted first of all and then as the discomfort continued I thought it was maybe a cyst where egg had left ovary. I'm 10 weeks now and I don't know what to think; the pain is at the height I guess my ovary is at on the right side which I am sure is way too high to be near where baby should be in uterus. It doesn't ever hurt like OUCH but I am aware of the discomfort most of the time and it feels worse if I've been on my feet a lot. It is more localised than cramping pain, a little like a stitch but again not enough to make me stop or cry out. I do have little niggles on the left but that is near where my leg joins my body so i think that's just normal stretching. I have had no bleeding and all my other symptoms are pretty text book and were at their peak at 8 weeks....

I have a scan booked for less than 2 weeks time (12 week scan) so i feel like I should just wait until then so as to not waste anybody's time but I really wanted to hear your thoughts please. Has anyone else had this type of specific pain and it gone on to be nothing? I wish there was a way of knowing it was all ok without causing a fuss and seeming like a worrier.

Thanks for your time and advice xx

I would go to your GP and see if you can have a acan on your own organs in that area to check all is ok. I had rib pain that just never went away after my last pregnancy and I had an ultrasound that checked out all my organs and all was ok. My pain was never explained but it isnt aa bad now. Your svan will be for baby not you (they do quickly check ovaries and uterus but generally I think you shoyld have a proper scan for yourself. Xxxx

I'd get a scan too as it could be a cyst or something on your ovary. They usually scan immediately for one sided pain to rule out ectopic. Honestly you are not being silly, I'd be exactly the same xx

I'm 10+2 today as well.. I have a cyst on my right ovary that they are currently monitoring due to its size. I had horrid pains on my right side and due to previous ectopic had an early scan. I would speak to your midwife and see if she can arrange a scan. Are you able to self refer to your local epu? Xx

As above, I would go to GP just in case. It's probably nothing and just pregnancy related but just in case. X

update - I went to see the GP this morning because the discomfort was keeping me awake at night and was still present from the moment I woke up. I explained my concerns that the pain was at my ovary height and had been constant since about 5 weeks and got worse when I was standing. He did a urine sample check, blood pressure and physically examined my abdomen. I had no pain response to his prodding and poking. He said he was not worried and that if it was ectopic my pain would be agonising by now. I asked about a cyst and he said it was most likely just my uterus expanding and changing to accommodate baby. He was very kind and said he could tell I was worried but that I hadn't said anything that set off any alarm bells for him and that he wouldn't send me for a scan unless the pain worsened or I have bleeding or severe cramping etc. I really hope he is right and that everything is ok at the scan. Only 11 days to wait.
thank you all for your thoughts and support. x

I have had this on my left side and assumed it was where baby implanted. It was not lol. I had a 6 week scan for bleeding but all was well - they checked my ovaries and uterus in depth and said all was normal, saw heartbeat, they were happy with baby and position. At 12 week scan again no problems. The only thing I can think of is perhaps its a nerve which keeps getting prodded by my uterus tissue as it expands? Its always in exactly the same place but docs and nurses said there's nothing there

that's helpful to know blank page! It felt too close to the surface of my body and too high up to be implanting I thought but then GP says it's not exactly where my ovary is either so who knows? I am sure I will be able to ignore all the niggles once I have had my 12 week scan and know that at least baby is ok x
