I've been BFing for 3 weeks with top ups but now its been a week and a half with exclusively breastmilk and it still hurts when baby feeds. Initially its toe curling pain which calms down to a non-toe curling pain. also, dirctly under my nipple is sore i think. i had a look at it and its gone a lighter color to the rest of the areola.

Is this pain normal for this time or am i doing something wrong?

Thanks

very normal hun the first 6weeks of breastfeeding can be tough but it does get easier, u can see why some ppl just give up and give a bottle.
well done 4 keeping it up xxxx hang on in there hun

Hi, have you had your positioning and attachment checked over? As its the most common cause of toe curling pain. Have you checked for blocked ducts by feeling ur breasts, if there are any then massage the area.
You're doing fab hun

i had toe curling pain for 6 weeks on the left, i think cos i am right handed so wasnt holding 100% right (prob only 95% but it makes a difference), also someone favoured the LHS cos the flow was better. Everytime i asked HV or midwivesd about it the answer i got was have you checked the latch. YES THREE MIDWIVES SAID HE LATCHED ON FINE, WHEN WILL IT STOP (can you tell i got a little fed up???).

They all say it will stop after a few days whihc is the bollocks they tell you to keep you B/Feeding.

If it is just the normal pain it will stop, but it can take up to 6 weeks, it helps if you pinch the nipple between two fingers beofre they latch on though.

I remember getting the toe curling pain which changed into a sensation, which i cant really describe but not painful...I had this for about 5 weeks iirc. It got a lot easier towards the 5 weeks though. I remember being worried about still feeling the pain and got lots of people to check the latch and it was always fine  just one of those things I think. You're doing great, it's hard work in them early days but so worth it :D

It'll get better hun... honesty i was where you are a couple of weeks ago at the end of my tether in agony n never thought i'd get to a point where it wasn't hurting... but i have  am really enjoying breastfeeding now where two weeks ago i was at point of giving up  hang on in there xxxxxx

Just wanted to send hugs, it will pass in time - it killed me for about 4 weeks. Do you have lansinoh to rub in?

Awwwww. thanks for the hugs. Nope i dont have anything to rub in. Is it a cream? Can i get it on prescription?

It's a cream that you rub into your nips which stops them drying out - it's the drying which makes the cracking worse. It also soothes them a bit. It isn't available on prescription though (although it should be!) You get it from Boots in a purple tube.
