i posted about sore nipples b/f...

tried nipple shields it hurts just as much :'( apparently my latch is right, i'm tryin so hard.. still just breastfeeding, but not sure how much i can take i'm in agony, its more my left nipple.. the pains gettin worse, i can see the crack in nipple.. got lacintosh which i religiously apply too, i cant do this anymore :'( xxx

also there extra extra sensitive the minute it step into cold the pain starts, any ideas? xx

Awww hun youve already done so well, dont beat yourself up if you decide to stop

I will just say though that I reached a similar point.... then just when i thought I could take no more it got easier, my nips healed and the pain lessened, probably around 6 weeks. I literally took it one feed at a time which lessened the pressure of thinking 'i cant do this', good luck if you decide to continue, you will find so much support from everyone here whichever way you go

Mastitis is my left boob, i dont have visible symtoms, just i have bee feverish resently but not really unwell which is odd, and its mainly in left boob, and its constant not just when feeding..

has anyone had Mastitis? xx

I remember the feeling well. And the crying thinking i can't go on. But as Clarey said, after 6 weeks-ish it did start to get better, just as i was prepared to quit.

You have done amazingly well, no matter what you decide to do! Be so proud of yourself!

Hey hun - was it midwife or b/f person that said the latch is right?

Cracked nips are usually caused by - suction on the nipple, nipple rubbing against the baby's tongue or palate
- may be aggravated by engorgement as the baby then sucks harder.

Actions to take are - check positioning and attachment, during as well as at the start of the feed. Check the appearance of nips at the end of feed, if they look squashed or flattened attachment needs improving

Try changing feeding positions

Putting cream on or breastmilk on them

Minimise engorgement by feeding the baby when breasts feel full or by expressing for comfort

if infected go to the doc

If necessary rest the breast and hand espress for up to 48 hours. ebm can be given by cup.

You're doing fab hun xxxx

girls thank you so much for your replies, just when i thought i couldnt taqke anymore, i've got this new energy to continue..

my Lo is now resting after a long (painful) feed, and i'm just resting my boobies for few hours, going to take each feed as it comes, there hurting so bad, coulsnt get much worse, so that means they shud get better hehe,
thanks girls xxx

Aww bless ya hun sounds like your going about things amazingly ! When my nips went through their cracked and bloody stage ( owww i feel for you  ) thats exactly what i did, just one more feed, just more feed and then before you know it it doesnt hurt at all anymore and you can get on with enjoying it :)

how you doing today honey? xxxx

hey fly. there worse, bleedin now :(

i need to rest them tried expressin that hurts sooo much too :(

what would happen to my milk supply if i gave lo formular for one day?? i want to b/f, but need just 1 day rest :( xxx

Have you tried hand expressing honey? that way you don't have anything touching your nipples - i managed for a few days like that when i was having problems with a bad crack in my left nipple..

It does take abit of practice but i found i got more out by hand expressing than i did by using a hand pump - tis messy though...

If you have a rest for a day you are gonna need to express otherwise you're gonna get really sore so grab yaself a plastic jug or some sort of tupperware (deep sided is good to catch the random squirts that go off over ya shoulder lol or is that just me? :shhh: ) n start hand expressing. Am sure it wouldn't hurt to top up what you can express with some formula honey but make sure to hand express regularly to keep your supply coming for when you are healed x x x

My heart goes out to you sweetheart it really does and i think you're doing amazingly well to keep going through the pain cos there is NO pain like it is there

Loadsa love you hardcore boobie feeding mamma you    x x x x x x x

Fly your such a sweetie thank you...

Clydesdaleclopper:- i went to dics with Lo they said he didnt have thrush, but his tongue was awfall so went for 2nd opionion and he did have it, i asked the doc about cream for me, he said i didnt need it? but common sense would say i do, Lo's thrush has gone :-) but i think you may be right, i have ALL the symtoms, i got Lo's Daktarin should i wack some of that on? xx

oh hun i so feel your pain. I was bleeding and sore and had to give formula in the end. The guilt i still feel is not good even though i know it was for the best. All i would say is if you can grin and bear it do it. I wouldnt recommend giving your LO a bottle if you can avoid it as i then had the whole nipple confusion thing. The cup thing would be your best option.

cup? how do i do that, sorry for being thick hehe xx

Putting the cream on won't help as the thrush is probably in the milk ducts. You need the oral thrush treatment but it needs to be a high dose. The breastfeeding consultant I saw at the hospital gave the the breastfeeding network leaflet that I gave the link for and told me to take it along to the GP as it says exactly what the treatment and doses are. Insist on it. I was told 3 times by GPs that I didn't have thrush. The BF consultant said I did and hey presto after treatment BFing was totally pain free.

thanks hun, i'm def going on monday! last nite i had symtoms of matistis (sp) shivering cold (heating on full) red patch and extreamly sore boobs (tender) and few others... but i think its thrush, but need to rule matisitis out too,
hopefully by next week i'll be better (i'm sticking it out till i am) xxx

you truly are hardcore lady ... you should be dead proud of yourself for battling on sweetie  x x x x

grr i just typed a long reply and stupid work computer crashed

i was gonna say, firstly big up yourself for getting this far!

i was lucky i think, my nipples were only sore for the first 4 days after that i had no problems. so i cannot advise but i do feel for you

obviously happy mummy and happy well-fed baby is most important, and u shouldnt feel bad about switching to formula if that's what u WANT to do.

what i will say, just as a lil warning, i switched to formula when melissa was 8 months old- and for one, i was shocked at just how much i missed BFing, and two- i soon tired of making up feeds and sterilizing- it was a chore, and i only had to make 2 feeds a day as she was weaned. its not cheap either :|

follow your heart, if u wanna move to FF now then do it, but if u really, really love BFing and wanna fight thru it can i point u to beanie and midna (sure they wont mind!) mid is our BFing guru and i think beanie had lotsa BFing obstacles with seren if i recall correctly

good luck whichever u decide x x x
