Hi Ladies,

Background - I have PCOS - On Metformin to reduce cycles and loose weight- it works a dream (the side effects are not so much of a dream to start but they settle) Gone from 90 day cycle to 50 to 31 ish (three times as many chances I reckon!) I'm still about a stone over weight a (more like 1.5 if you ask my rather strict German specialist - Must go on a diet YA! :shakehead:)

Hubby - Had reversal in Aug. They took sperm at time of op and the wiggles were present! He had a sperm test done last week and doc called to say 'it wasnt great but not terrible' (that narrows it down...)
Doc said 'magic' number was 20 and hubby is at 17. He said 10 or less would be deemed a failure. I asked what the mobility and shape of them were but hubby didnt ask :wall2:

He's been on Wellman vitamins for last 6-9 months. Have reduced his alcohol intake. Any other ideas? Do we have to BD twice as much to get enough of the swimmers

Trying not to be disheartened...

Hi there! :)

I originally said no to taking the tablet but read so many success stories that I changed my mind. There is also a belief that if you have PCOS (which has a higher chance of miscarriage) it can help fight against miscarriage.

Diet - With the lifestyle I lead it is quiet hard to have a fixed diet but I have taken out a lot of the rubbish and reduced my alcohol limit to almost nothing. Before I might have had a glass or two every other night. Now it more like a glass a week if lucky. Really dont fancy it since taking tablets and serious about TTC.
Exercise - Again lifestyle makes this hard. Do the odd bit of bike work. but nothing regular.

I started off one a day for the first week, two a day for second week and told to go to three. I have stuck at 2 a day which is 100mg in total. (2 x 50mg tablets)

Pro's
- within first month cycles went from 50 days to 43 and second month it went to 31. Works really quick.
- Tablets are easy to take (not horse tablets!)
- I found that I am not as hungry on them. I dont eat as much at meal times and some of the rubbish food I can leave it now where as before I would have eaten Melted cheese for example)
- Have lost 1 stone and 3 lbs. Another stone to go. Its a steady loss of about 1-2 pounds a week if you eat right.

Con's
- initial cramps are awful. Within two hours of taking first tablet my tummy was in knots and thought my backside was going to explode. Had the worst tummy and toilet experience I have ever had BUT, it went as quickly as it came (tell the other half to leave the house or put a peg on his nose!).
- Cramps get less as time goes on. And some people don't get them. Now i make get mild cramps every three days or so but nothing like the first few weeks.
- You are not meant to go out on the drink on them. With TTC anyway that is out the window.

Hope this is some use.

What have you been prescribed? Have you taken any yet?

Hiya Sophie - good luck with the weight loss :)

BD'in twice as much won't produce twice as much sperm... chances are that you'll just be left with a lower count of immature sperm in the later attempts.

I think that your best best would be to time BD'in very carefully.

You want hubby to ejaculate every 3 days throughout the month and then when OV is due he is to aim for 4 days without before bd'in on the day of your surge - or the day before even better.

Then bd again the day after the surge :)

Hi Louise :)

Cheers Hubby will be disappointed!
Doc who performed the reversal said they take three months to mature so I hope this is some of the 'old stock' pre op.

Think I will ovulate on Sunday ish. CBFM is saying I am high fertility (2 out of 3 bars) but it is first month of using it. Last BD'ing was done on Sunday so if we get frisky tonight and then again on Sat night / sun morning.. or maybe leave it until nearer Ovulation?

Confusion reigns!

hey,

What your doc refered to as "the magic number" did he mean sperm count? A normal sperm count is described as over 15m which your hubby has (the guideline used to be 20m)

Sperm count, or sperm concentration to avoid mixup, measures the concentration of sperm in a man's ejaculate, distinguished from total sperm count, which is the sperm count multiplied with volume. Over 15 million sperm per milliliter is considered normal, according to the WHO in 2010. Older definitions state 20 million.

above from the W.H.O guidelines on "wikipedia sperm analysis"

maybe you should request a copy of the results and have a look for yourself?

woah - massive font mistaks - sorry!! all meant to be same size!!
