Anyone else suffering from SPD? i was diagnosed with it a few weeks back, and i gotta say its PAINFUL! its hard to get in and out of bed and to even get dressed :( Im hoping i can give birth naturaly as i heard alot of women who have SPD have a c-section.. and the thought of that terrifes me!

what did you ladies do when you had it? how did you get through it?
Im almost 26 weeks and im proper fed up with being pregnant now, cos of all the pain im going through.. feel proper selfish :( cos pregnancy is supposed to be a wonderful and exciting thing but all ive had this pregnancy is pain.. pain and more pain

Ohh ive just realised im off to second Tri 2mow! :D

Hey Hun. I don't have spd but have similar prob with the rear joints in my pelvis! The pain is so drain g isn't it? I an hoping for a natural birth apparently there r certain birthing positions that r good for sufferers x

Hey - gatecrashing fromTri 3! :)

I've been suffering with it from 19 weeks and it has got progressively worse :( I can't even walk any further than 5 or 10 minutes!

Keep your pelvis as straight as possible by standing up straight. Roll on to your side before getting out of bed and whatever you do, do not put knickers, trousers, socks, shoes on without sitting down first! This is where I have gone wrong as whipping socks off whilst standing up takes 2 seconds and you've no sooner done it when, aaaargh...the pain sears through. They say to sleep on your side with a pillow between your legs and although this was ok for me initially, it makes it worse now. I find sleeping on my back keeps the pelvis as straight as possible - I know that back sleeping is not recommended but I stick a pillow under my right side so I'm on a bit of a tilt. It's not the most comfy position, but it's better than the other positions I've tried.

I live in Oz so they don't call it SPD here, they just refer to it as pelvic pain and don't seem to take it too seriously. The physio told me to just stay off my feet as much as possible. Because they don't take it as seriously, they don't expect I'll have any problems giving birth naturally. I'm booked in to a midwife only Birthing Centre so epidurals and C-Sections aren't an option there (A corridor leads to main hospital if I do require either though). My point is, albeit in a round about way, that they wouldn't have allowed me to birth there if they thought it was going to be a problem.
In saying that, my baby is pretty massive for my size and doesn't seem to have engaged properly yet, so time will tell on the type of birth I have - 9 days to go if I'm lucky!

Sorry for such a long post, but hopefully you'll have some tips on how to look after your pelvis!

Good luck with it all! xxx

I've had really bad spd with my first pregnancy from 16 weeks, ended up in a wheelchair in the last few weeks because I couldn't walk more than 3 or 4 steps without seizing up in terrible pain. Doesn't necessarily have to get that bad, though, I've heard that most women get through pregnancy with crutches or even without anything. Just wanted to illustrate how bad mine was because I still ended up with a vaginal birth (forceps rather than completely normal, but that wasn't due to the spd). So I'm sure you will be fine, too. I found that those belly belts helped a little bit, although when it got really bad I have to admit that nothing did. It was all worth it in the end, though, when my beautiful baby daughter was born! And I didn't have any spd with my 2nd pregnancy (and nothing so far yet, either), so don't worry that just because it is happening to you now means it will always be like that when you are pregnant! Hope this helps a bit...

I'm suffering from it aswell, I have done since I was 15 weeks and it feels like it's getting worse :-(

I have the belt the pillow for in-between my legs etc, but nothing eases it up. It feels like my pelvis is actually going to fall out :-(

I have recently went to my doctors who have given me dihydracodiene which has then told me that they will make the baby sleepy so I'm not wanting to take them

Its horrible and I feel your pain x

I had it very bad with my first, but as another poster said, mines wasn't recognised as being anything serious, it was just put down to pelvic pain. I've never heard of people having c-sections because of it.

I got it quite bad with this pregnancy at about 14/15 weeks which I thought was strange as it was quite early on. I was worried I wouldn't get going on holiday because of it, I had it very bad for 2 weeks and not even had a bit of it since.

:)

Yeahh The Pains Unbearable to the point where i cant walk, I Literly feel like ill collapse from the pain if i carry on...my midwife told me to take it easy but i have a 1 year old girl to run around for , so im finding it very difficult atm :( im so miserable with this pregnancy!!

I do feel for you, mine was the same, but at least I didn't have a toddler to run around after. Could you maybe get some crutches at least from your GP practice? That saves you from having to make that walking motion, might make things at least a little bit easier!

i would but it still means ill have to walk around with a buggy lol :(
Just hope it disapears once my lil boys here :)

Hi I have SPD and its my 3rd time !! have u seen a physio ? highly recommended it along with the other advice. I have had 2 natural births and could hardly walk with my second so there is plenty of hope that u can go natural !! support belts really help but try and get a decent one not just one band ones as they dont support aswell xxx

I had SPD with Jasper, i must say that the best thing for it was giving birth naturally!! I did have a problem with one bit of labour and needed to have my waters broken because labour sort of 'stopped' but other than that, lots of moving around and being on all 4s really helped.

The pelvis opens itself up during labour and i found it totally sorted out my backproblems (they are back now i am pregnant again though) so I think labour is quite good for mild to moderate SPD, i can see it being a bit of a problem for major SPD though x
