Hi Ladies,

Hoping for some advice from anyone who's suffered this. My midwife thinks I have it based on quite bad pain in my pubic bone when walking, getting in and out of the car, alternating legs to put my jeans on in the mornings! It seems to be quite noticeably worse in one leg than the other.

Midwife has offered me a referral for physio which I'm taking her up on, and also crutches. Unfortunately we have a lot of steps outside our house and I have a dog that needs a daily walk, so I don't feel that crutches are a feasible option.

I wondered if anyone had any advice they could offer on not aggravating it - it's much worse some days than others! And any tips on relieving the pain if anyone has any too please :)

Thank you! X

Hey sweet, there’s no real solution for it I’m afraid, I’m 38 weeks now and mines only gotten worse but my doctor refused to send me to physio as said I wouldn’t Benifit from it only for my Midwife to send me at 33 weeks as she could see just how bad it was, unfortunately for me there was nothing they could do as mine had gotten to far along so I’ve got crutches although I can’t walk with them either, certainly get as much physio as you can. Sleep with a pillow between your legs as that does take pressure of your groin hips and helps it doesn’t get rid of the pain but it does take the edge of it, a warm bath might ease it a little too xx

I have this too and I was referred to the physio who gave me some tips to prevent it getting worse, like sitting with your knees together, using pillows at night like Holli says above, take small steps as you walk, try to maintain a good posture, swivel when getting in and out of the car rather than one leg at a time, use a yoga ball to sit on at times. But later in pregnancy some of these are hard to follow, like sitting with your knees together. They also suggested a pelvic support belt but personally I’ve never found one that really fit me well, but that might be because I’m on the larger side. Ultimately they said there wasn’t a lot that could be done about it but they reassured me that it would disappear when the baby is born and there would be no lasting damage. It’s really difficult to live with though so I sympathise x

Thank you both for your responses! I will try the pillow between legs and warm baths. I will definitely make sure I keep up with my physio appointments too - thanks Holli. I can't believe your doctor did that. You must have been quite cross when the midwife finally referred you?

Great advice about sitting with knees together and swivelling instead of moving separately too Sparrow. Thank you. I've not tried my yoga ball yet, so it sounds like it could be time to pump that up!

Thank you. Knowing it will disappear once baby has arrived does make it a lot more bearable x

I have spd, and my dr told me to take paracetamol..
Saw my MW today she said i need to go bk to get dr to refer me, so thats awesome, ugh.
Anyways, ive found it best not to stay in one position for too long. When you roll in bed dont use your legs. I have a pregnancy pillow for in my legs and helps abit. Do not squat. If you have sex do not go on top oh my lord my hips cramped up so bad i couldnt move ahahah

Ha! I can imagine paracetamol might have the same effect on this as a cup of tea...

Okay great - I work in an office so I'll have to make sure I stretch my legs regularly to stop it all seizing up! Hahaha oh dear  Hubby's been working away for months so not much chance of that, but i'll bear it in mind when he finally comes home ;)
