Hi all.

I'm at my wits end :( with this blooming SPD.

My hip is soo painful after an hour or more driving that I can't put any weight on it at all the rest of the day - which is helpful when trying to get in/out the bath or just walk!!

I have to drive to work everyday which is an hour - hour and a half and some days it takes me 10 -15 mins to get out of the car.

I'm off to the docs tomorrow but doubt there is much they can do.

It flares up at other times, ie when i've been sitting in the same position for a while etc but driving is the worst one.

any suggestions??? I don't want it to affect work but I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to have to do something about the commute.

Im sorry ive no advice but thought you needed some

The docs will give you an appointment with the psysio people as far as i've heard frm other people.. which could help a lot.. really hoping it gets better..
*hugs hugs hugs*

thank you.

Just so frustrating - didn't have any of this with number one!!

Would it be possible to work at home for a while if they give you a laptop?

well in theory yes- the whole team has the ability to work at home whenever needed as we're all mobile anyway - but my boss is not the sort to let me work at home on a regular basis (he thinks he's being 'more than reasonable' about my midwife appointments....) so the only way is if the doc backs it up.

But I feel like a naughty teenager skipping school if I ask the doc to confirm I would be better off working from home - Its silly I know but I still feel guilty.

Ive been waiting 2 weeks to hear about physio for mine :( I cant do anything its making me miserable!!

well update for anyone that wants to know :)

Ive not got SPD but actually got Sciatica (which is normally mis-diagnosed during pregancy and is just SPD) but in my case is definatly Sciatica.

So now have to pad it for a week and if its no better (which its not) I have to go back :?

I totally sympaphise, I have the same problem, right hand side of my hip gets really painful and I've already started waddling much to my OH's amusement  She told me its Sciatica but the physio she has referred my to should be able to help diagnose further.

i was sent to physio, they gave me a support belt (which is useless!) and a sheet with excersises on, thats it.

i would advise everything you read (sit down to put clothes on etc) i have never found a comfortable position to sleep in and have woken up in tears because of the pain. take it easy and tell work that although you dont mind coming in could you possibly have 2 days a week at home to split the week up and give your legs a rest. the MW or Dr should be able to put it into writing if they need it

put that you have it in your birth plan and measure how far you can spread your legs before it hurts, if you have an epi. they will need to know this as you wont be able to feel the pain and you dont want to damage your pelvis further!

lastly, good luck, its a horrid thing to have.

Thank you - already asked work for 2 days at home, which they've said yes to -but only if its monday and friday which still means 3 consecutive days driving 65 miles each way :( but i'll try it a few weeks and see how we go.

Sleeping is ok for me but then I have a tempur matress thing which helps i think. Its sitting and driving that kill me, I went out with my mum yesterday as a passenger, we went 15 miles down the road, got out did shopping and drove home, by the time we got home I couldn't get out of the car :(

Am feeling very sorry for myself!!

*hugssss*.. sorry to hear its still so painful, hoping it gets sorted quickly for you and the dr's can do something to ease the pain..!

im in the same position as you...nightmare isnt it! I had SPD bad in my 1st pregnanacy and it has flared up early on in this pregnancy too.

Baths help...I am going to see if there is some kind of herbal something I can add to the water which is safe in pregancy which may help with pain or relaxation. I found the tummy support did not help me much last time but Im wearing it again now as the pain is awful at times. There has been mention of offering me crutches...but how Im supposed to look after an 11 month old and walk on crutches I dont know lol!!!

One handy tip is....getting out of a car is made a little less painful if you sit on a plastic carrier bag and use it to swivel on, to get yourself out the door...

Anyway wishing you well and hope that you find ways of minimising the SPD pain
