sooo confused

Right i have been through lots of old posts about controlled crying and pick up put down tec .... and i am still soooo confused about what to do.

I know everyone will not wanna type there stories out again and we all have different options to what should be done.....

SO heres my reason for and against

....Ellis screams so loud he starts coughing etc

....I can stop him crying unless i pick him up.

....when i do pick him up he cries straight away when i put him down.

Can someone be please be so kind to explain the pick up put down techn. for me please.

i recommend a book by rachael waddilove how to enjoy year one. i think thats what its called it was a godsend for me. it has all the different techniques in it with timesxales and tips, it had really useful routine stuff too. i kinda done a bit of both with nathan i think it worked anyhow

i am trying it now for his nap and its killing me!!! he is crying like i have never heard like scream... i have been going in ever 5 then6 then 7 mins etc.

I am trying to tell myself he is only crying cos he is tired and has been rocked for 6 months!!!

He has been crying for 40 mins now

well i let him cry for an hr and ther was no sign of falling asleep!

it was really upsetting 4 both of us and now i picked him up he seems to not be tired anymore???!!!

PLEASE can someone explain the pick up put down one as i am at a lost end!!!

The pick up put down
when he is crying you pick him up tell him its nap time/bed time and then lay him down, you can pat his back or his tummy, try no to interact with him, just say ssshh ssssh ssssh
if he stands up or you leave him and he starts crying you go back in and lay him back down and you just keep doing that, it could take over 100 pick up put downs.

i used to hold ewan untill he had calmed down then laid him down again,
i was told this was wrong that you should put them straight down, but ewan would scream even more so i would give him afew mins to calm and then say 'bedtime..sleepy time' and lay him down again and pat his back sssh sssh put once, if his wimpering stopped then i would stop patting him, but if he started again i would pat his back and do the shh shh thing.

I think its just a case of trial and error, i couldnt do controll ed crying it just tears me to bits! i personally i think they are crying for a reason not just to be spiteful and keep mummy awake! although at times i could have throttled him!!

hypnorm has explained it well...but its right that you SHOULD wait till they have stopped crying then put them down, thats what the picking up is for to settle them...and if they start crying again on the way back down make sure he is laid down on the mattress before picking him back up again

well update i gave up on all of them!!

Went back to my count down.

I have got him lower now.... i hold him till he closes his eyes and now can count to just 25 before putting him down!!!! he does open his eyes sometimes when i put him down but then he difts off again xxxxxx

Well Done!!

I tried Pick up put down with Phoebe.

Now I just lay her in her cot awake and if she cries I say Shhh it's just bed time and put my hand on her bum so she knows I'm there.
I don't get her back out, even if she's crying unless I think she's in pain. Trapped wind, tummy ache etc. Can take about 30mins but I'll live with that!!
