:offtopic: Spent 4 hours tonight at A&E with my 4 yr son... He was out playing at front of house with his brother and friends. All ok until a friend aged 5 brought his dog out (on a lead) think its a springer spaniel. Joshua came running in the house screaming his head off with blood running down his face!! He'd been bitten in the eye.... There was no damage to eye but eyelid had flap of skin hanging on it. Hospital half hour drive away so took him there where they cleaned it, glued it and got him on anti biotics.... What a night!!! He did not cry at all at hospital but I nearly did.... Just wanted to share.....kids!!!!

Awwwww, I'm glad it's nothing too serious.
What on Earth is a 5 year old doing with the dog on the lead? That doesn't sound safe itself.

Oh hun how horrid  have you spoken to the dog's owners? I certainly hope they don't let their little boy take it out again. x

He is not allowed to have dog...he sneaked dog out without his mum knowing... She is fraught too, said would get dog put down! I said no, just never let dog out of sight and never with kids. Its not done this before and I think maybe dog was surrounded by kids maybe teasing it, getting it wound up.... Joshua said he didn't, just clapped it.... I bet my opinion would change if there was serious damage though. Am I doing the right thing to let it go???

Oh and the dog owner was at my door 3 times looking for me when I was at hospital. She met me as I pulled into drive at 11 pm....

If it were me I would prob let it go, I'd say the owner will def not let it happen again, fair enough to take it further if it was more serious but if u are happy to leave it at that then I would. It's scary tho how easily it happens. Springers aren't normally bad natured just playful xx

I know, my baby before I had a baby was a springer and she was madder than a bucketfull of spiders but would not harm a fly! Excitable, not dangerous.... Oh how I miss her :'( sniff.... Aaarrrgh hormones, princess you have this to look forward to lol

Well that was kind of her I guess.
I think you did the right thing. I love animals and I always say it's the owners fault not the dog.
Children should never be left alone with a dog, not even if that dog is trustworthy.
I've got a labrador and he is the most clever and well behaved dog I have ever met, I trust him a lot but even I wouldn't trust little kids around him. My mother in laws dog is very eccentric, he scared a little girl the other day by running up to her. Then the little girl somewhat teased him because she was screaming her head off and running around like a headless chicken. Her father wasn't pleased but because these small children are almost the same size as these dogs, it excites the dog. When my dog was a puppy he used to bark at kids if they were crying, he hated the sound!

Also, kids love dogs, well most do. I recall my little sister pulling my dogs tail when she was little.
Kids are fascinated by them and when they're being stroked all over and pulled around, they can get pissed off just like any one of us would if our friends were stroking us every second and making a big fuss.

As long as your child is alright and there was no serious damage, it shouldn't be taken any further. Other than the fact the dog handling should be more watched. Her son shouldn't have taken the dog out and I'm sure she won't let it happen again. xxx

Oh what a nightmare hun. I agree that you did the right thing by not taking it further though. A group of kids can certainly excite dogs because they're all over it and excited themselves. The wee dog probably didn't know what to do. I have two staffs and I dislike it when kids think that they can just lunge at them, squealing and attempting to kiss them (they're both sisters and quite adorably cute). Doga can feel quite threatened with someone running at them or shouting/talking loudly so its possible that the dog probably got over excited and didn't know how to react or get away from the situation being on a lead and all.

Saying that, I really feel for you son, the poor wee man. I hope he's ok. x

OMG!! I'm glad your poor son wasn't too seriously harmed!! I'm a dog lover myself but in my opinion any animal who attacks a human being should be put down... You never know if they're gonna do it again... But if you feel OK with letting it go then let it go... So long as the owner doesn't fart arse about if something like that were to happen again... Best of luck to your son healing up ok xx
