hi ladies,

i used to be a 20 a day smoker but when we we're ttc i gave up and found it really easy, i didnt even want a fag, even found it disgusting!

however after my miscarriage i started again, i just wanted something to make me feel better. ive only been back on the ciggs about 2 weeks and ive been smoking the mega light silk cut. anyway i tried yesterday to stop and to my amazment found it really hard.

maybe i feel like i still need those horrible fags whilst im grieving for my loss and the reason why i felt it was so easy before is because i was ready to give up for my baby. i want to get my body in the best shape for ttc again which means ditching the fags. but really i just want to sit and wollow and couldnt really care what crap i put in my body at the moment.

am i being selfish or am i being too hard on myself?

Just wanted to give a

I quit smoking so i know what its like
Especially at stressful times...
All i wanted was a ciggy

I would just say try as hard as you can to quit.. :)
It will be better for you and like you say TTC

Hi!

my sister in law went through a mc and started to smoke, she then got prenant again and tbh it was disgusting watching her being pregnant and still smoking, then when liddy was born and she continused to smoke and breastfeed! :puke: :puke: :puke: It was horrible to watch and lydia was born with only one functioing kidney as well whixh the doctors feel are due to the effects of smoking.

If you want to be in great condition for pregnany and being pregnant give up now, you cant garuntee your baby will be healthy and smoking causes alot of miscarriages as well!

i quit ages before we even tried to concieve. i've already blamed myself for every possible reason why i miscarried so thanks. i didnt even drink coffee whilst i was pregnant!!!

there's no way i would smoke whilts ttc, preg or after i was just meaning in the meantime. is it acceptable to allow myself time off? im sure other people got drunk and smoked after a m/c to numb the pain, and then when they were ready to go again they picked themselves up and did everything right?

I think you are allowed to do what you feel you need. You've been through a distressing time and smoking is in your mind what is helping you. Don't beat yourself up over it too much.

However, I'd try to quit again as soon as you can. Not for just your health while TTC again and beyond, but also for your longterm health. Hopefully when you quit this time you won't start smoking again no matter what. Once you have a child, if you've been able to quit while TTC or during pregnancy then stay that way. I think its just as important once a baby is born to not start smoking again for both Mum and baby. Second hand smoke is a killer also. I'm sure you are aware of that anyways, but I know how hard it can be to stay stopped and to keep the incentive going.

You did so well before to quit, having a relapse at this time is understandable. But really, best thing you can do as soon as possible is to stop again before it becomes a habit and you start craving it or finding it a struggle mentally to stop.

As for why you miscarried, it was nothing you did I am sure. Our bodies more often than not sense when something is not right with a pregnancy and women miscarry. It does not mean it was anything you did or your fault. Chances are you will conceive again and go on to have a healthy pregnacy and baby after suffering a MC.

I think if you can understand and accept it was not your fault you had a miscarriage and stop blaming yourself maybe you will find you don't need the cigarettes so much perhaps?

i think you should give yourself a break about that- you already quit smoking before you tried to concieve and i really highly doubt that had anything to do with you m/c  i didn't know i was pregnant with my son until i was 7 weeks..in which time i smoked 20 or more a day and drank heavily i'm not condoning that or anything but he is here and fine.

if smoking in this hard time is a stress buster for you then don't feel bad- as you said you wouldn't do it whn ttc or pregnant..your not a bad person for smoking a few cigs when you feel down. Don't forget some people dont quit before they try or during..so don't beat yourself up about it anymore..take time to recover from your m/c xx

i agree with this- some of y'all kno on here what i was doing during my early pregnancy before i found out at 6 weeks- not smoking but worse things- anyway i was lucky i had a healthy baby (i stopped the bad habits after my BFP btw and like fran says i dont condone it either) and some women are healthy and look after their bodies perfectly from before they even conceive and still sadly lose their babies- so really dont blame urself for ur m/c it wasnt ur fault hun

dont give urself a hard time like u said u found it easy to quit for ur baby- when u decide ur ready to ttc u will find it easy to quit for the baby b4 u even conceive it

thanks girlies. i got some pregnancy multi vitmamins the other day.hopfully soon im gonna pull myself out my pit, ditch the fags, take my multi vits and folic acid and start eating properly again. wish me luck.
