smoke alarms can u help?

this afternoon the smoke alarm on the landing upstairs started beeping intermittently. my mum said it means the battery needs changing and this will continue until its changed, so i went out this evening and bought some of those square batteries. just got my boyf to do it and he said he cant undo the bugger! it stopped bleeping awhile ago but im assuming it will start up again at some point, and if it does it tonite while im tryna sleep i shall be soooooooooooooooo cross

And be warned when you do replace the battery it may go off until the battery is properly clipped on IYKWIM
